The relationship between Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and Umar ibn al-Khattab is beautiful --- and a lesson.
They disagreed often, including over major decisions. They disagreed over sending out the army of Usama bin Zayd, over how to approach the Riddah Wars, how to engage with Khalid ibn al-Walid, which of them should be Khalifah (each wanted the other to lead) and more.
But the love and respect not only held, it flourished and set the foundation for the Islam that has today reached us all. Their disagreements didn't lead to stagnation and enmity, but towards striving for what is more correct.
And when Abu Bakr took his final decision, Umar simply served him.
May Allah be pleased with them, and peace and blessings be upon their teacher.
