I kissed Ma on the cheek before sitting down on the chair next to her bed. Cassie sat next to her on the bed.

"Cassie Nadira Gloria Carter you look beautiful. I am honoured to be your mother,"Ma got teary. It was Cassie's prom and before she went we all decided to come by and see Ma for the second time today.

Bey paid for everything for Cassie- hair, makeup, dress, shoes, transport. Cass adored Bey. Them two were close, walking around like sisters.

Naharyi, Faith, Cy'Cah and Morocco just had their school dances but Bey paid for all of them too- even Naharyi. She'd done so much for them it was surreal. I didn't even know she had that kinda money to be spraying on my brother and sisters.

"All y'all are beautiful and handsome children. I'm proud of you all. Even though y'all do the most dumbest shit I can think of you're my children and I wouldn't have you any other way."

"Group hug!"they all crowded round Ma hugging her.

"Aye lemme get a pic of y'all,"I stood up and the guys posed as I took a camera on my iPhone 7.

"Jay get in the picture!"Morocco smiled.

"Who's gonna take it?"

"You're 24. You should know what a selfie is,"Naharyi said with a blank face. Playfully I kissed my teeth and joined the family on the bed taking the selfie.

"That's cute. Send it to me,"Cassie checked her phone.

"And me."

"And me."

"A-"

"I'll send it to all of you,"I said quickly sending it to all of them.

TyTy opened the door with a cheeky grin.

"Uncle Ty!"Morocco ran up to him and hugged him.

"Wassup CoCo?"he smiled. "Well shit, why y'all dressed up? Y'all going to dinner with the president?"

"No chance,"Naharyi scoffed.

"How you doing Aunt Gloria,"TyTy kissed her teeth.

"I'm not dead,"Ma joked.

"Sorry to break to family moment but Cass, your black Benz is downstairs and for the rest of y'all, get into the white one,"he ordered. They kissed Ma on the cheek before running out the door to their cars.

"Imma holla at you later Jay. Bye Aunt G,"TyTy dapped me up and kissed Ma's cheek again before following the kids.

"I guess now I can get a lil one-to-one with my big baby,"Ma patted the space next to her and I smiled joining her on the bed. I laid my head on her and she cuddled me. As big as I was I felt like a little boy again. Ma would do this all the time. She'd cuddle me whenever I was upset. I missed her. I missed annoying her and getting into arguments with her because then we'd laugh about them time later. I missed cooking with her and treating her to lunches and shopping sprees because then I'd get to see her precious smile.

"How are you feeling Shawn?"

"Just been juggling the kids and work a-"

"I asked you how you're feeling Shawn not what you've been up to. I know what you've been up to. You've been playing the parent role to your siblings,"I sighed.

"I'm scared Ma. I don't wanna lose you,"I felt a tear trickle from my eye.

"You won't lose me baby,"she rubbed my head. "I'm staying on this earth Shawn. No matter what."

"But you haven't got treatment. You're running outta time."

"Shawn I didn't need treatment the last time so I won't need it this time. Save your money for you and your siblings."

"Ma..."

"Shawn I don't wanna talk about it anymore so let's change the subject. How's Beyoncé?"

"She's been a rock helping us out Ma. She paid for everything for the kids' prom and school dances. Anything I can't do she does."

"Do you have feelings for her?"

"I don't know...I might. She's the only woman I can connect to on a different level."

"Do you see a future with her?"

"I'm not sure about that Ma but I got feelings for her."

"Remember what I told you though...she's hiding something from you Shawn. She's lying about something and you need to be wary of her,"Ma warned me.

"What makes you think that?"

"Shawn in the 49 odd years I've lived on this earth I've come across many woman. I know when a woman is lying based on my instincts."

"Maybe your instincts are wrong."

"My instincts are never wrong Shawn. When it's the inner you saying something then it's right. Whatever decision you make with this woman you must remember what I told you. Make sure you know her inside and out before you go on further with her,"I nodded.

"Aight Ma,"she kissed the top of my head.

"My big baby,"she giggled and I chuckled.

"Ma I'm sorry for putting you through hell. All these crimes and arrests. You never left my side. You always stuck by me."

"Because that's my job as your mother. No child is easy to raise Shawn. I didn't want you to be like this. I raised you thinking you were going to become a doctor or lawyer or whatever you wanted to be but you turned to this life. If this is my last dying wish..."

"No Ma."

"Listen. If this is my last dying wish...I want you to remove yourself from this toxic game of drugs and murder and start a new life. Your father lived this life and I'm not surprised if he's dead because his ghosts caught up to him. Do this for me Shawn. Okay?"

"Okay,"i sniffed.

"And one more thing..."

"What is it?"

"I've written letters for each of you which I want you to read when I've been called back. I've also left college funds for all of you, including you Jay."

"I'm 24 Ma."

"It's never too late to go back to college Shawn."

"I love you Ma."

"I love you too Shawn."
