Hey everyone!
Welcome back to our third session on WritersRing, we hope you're enjoying these sessions and have taken something away so far! There are far more sessions to come, so please stay tuned!
With that being said, let's leap into Session 3 | The Writing Challenge
♣
We'd decided to switch up challenges for a bit and do a little more of a contest approach this session to see what you guys can stir up with just a few words we give you!
Here's how it works:
We'll give you a writing prompt and it's your job to write a SHORT (we mean, condensed!) storyline that will tell the whole story with all the words we have incorporated. This is a game I_am_Sherlock and tulsingly often play.
It's also a really good way to get your creative juices flowing as well.
Here is an example:
A lawyer, an old enemy, and a cab. Now, this will require me to incorporate all three of these elements into my SHORT story that I'll write:
I stood at the edge of the sidewalk on 22nd Street, making my measly attempts at hailing a cabbie. Nearly every yellow car that passed had someone filling the back seat. I checked my watch. 10:37. I had twenty-three minutes to get to the L&L law firm so I could get back to work on the Wilson case's defense. Practically impossible to be a lawyer defending a thief.
Finally, a cab with marked with 1211 pulled up to me. I clambered into the backseat as the cabbie cleared the meter. "Where to, Jon?"
I jolted at the sounds of both the voice and my name. I glanced up into the rearview to see a pair of round, rusting glasses, behind which the greenish brown eyes of an old enemy sat.
"The law firm, you good-for-nothing -"
"Nah-ah, I won't be having any of that," he sneered at me, then the sneer morphed into a callous grin. "It'd be unfortunate if we crashed because of menial differences, yeah?"
He pulled into the street, and I sat, indignant, as he turned onto 1st Avenue.
You can see, that in this entry, we were able to incorporate all three aspects of the words. We had the person hail a cab, an old enemy in the cab, and a lawyer.
With that being said, here is your writing prompt:
A cellphone, a fire alarm, and a building.
In your entry, please incorporate all three of these words with a condensed storyline (almost like you're telling a story to someone who has less than 2 minutes to hear what you have to say). You can include dialogue if you would like to, but it is not necessary. You must also TITLE the entry. Keep in mind that if you do not incorporate all three words we have provided, you will not be counted in towards the potential winners.
THIS ENTRY IS DUE FRIDAY JULY 7TH, 2017 AT 9PM EST. No late entries will be counted towards the contest. We do recognize that there is Canada Day and the Fourth of July coming up, so that is why we've extended the date further for you all.
This contest is being judged upon how creative you can get, and obviously, writing - this includes punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Can't wait to see what you can come up with!
