Lightning cracked, the angry skies thundered down the rolling clouds. Suddenly it poured. Raen and Galu skidded to a halt to find shelter in the dense woods, dusk was fast approaching and Raen was far more than weary. She clung on tight to Galu's dark furr, hanging onto her last strength. It wasn't easy losing a dozen guards, she was lucky to have escaped Pelennor with a single arrow wound. Too lucky the arrow pierced her leg lightly. A horse would prove to be a better steed but the hound suffered a course any beast could not. Galu braved the raging torrent of Anduin, swam and bore her long and far from the Townlands to the other side until they've come to the forest East of the great river.

'There!' Raen pointed to the oak tree who's boughs were thick and drooping

'There!' Raen pointed to the oak tree who's boughs were thick and drooping. 'That looks comfort.' She slid down Galu and they hurried to the shade. Indeed it offered comfort but no more little to the heavy raindrops falling through the leaves. Raen and Galu huddled under the thickest bough, pressing their backs against the protruding root. There they waited for the skies to calm, too grumpy to talk they finally hugged. It was Galu's warmth that Raen felt true comfort, for not even warm soup near a hearth could melt the cold in her heart.  Dusk passed, the night crawled and the air was grey and moist. The moon sailed to the rain-washed skies and the treetops glistened faintly under the moonlight. Hunger woke Galu up and slowly the hound went and disappeared to the bushes. Later then Raen felt the failing heat and so she woke and found Galu had gone.

'Galu?' she called rubbing her eyes. She ran her eyes around and stood wondering if the hound have forsaken her as well, but Galu jumped out of the dark with a fat bird between his fangs. 'You brought me food? How kind!' Raen couldn't hide her delight.

She made a small pit in the shade and started a fire out of the dry twigs she dug from the forest floor , then  washed it in the rain water that had gathered in some leaves. It is a plenty meal, she thought, and her stomach grumbled some more. The two sat close to the fire, patiently waiting for the meat to cook.

'Hey dog,' Raen turned to the hound

'Hey dog,' Raen turned to the hound. Galu was laying in four limbs, eyes almost shut while staring to the dancing fire. 'Thanks for being there. If it wasn't for you I might be dead by now.'
