-OVER THE PHONE- -one hour later -
The phone rung twice before Jc answered the call, and hearing his voice made the girl's face light up slightly.
"Hey, Lucy. What's up?"
the girl sighed into the phone. "I'm so scared, Jay. I just- I know he's going to die, but I don't want him to..."
"Lucy, I can't even begin to even comprehend how hard this is for you, and i am so fucking sorry. I talked to your mom the other day, and she told me your dads acting a little better."
Just the thought of her father getting better made the girl's eyes light up. "Jc?"
"Yeah?"
"Please do me a favor."
"Of course. Anything. What do you need?"
"Can you keep up with my family? You know, visit, make sure everyone's okay? I feel like complete shit because i'm not there with them, and i'm thinking about staying back in Cali for a few months just to see them. But in the mean time, can you just make them feel loved when i'm not there. My parents see you as their son, so just-" her voice cracked as memories of her father, Jc, and her played paintball and had a little war in their backyard.
Lucy had smoked both of them, and she would never forget the bright smile plastered on her dads face as she shot him in the chest. "That's my girl!" he would yell at her, his fists in the air even though he was defeated.
"Lucy? You okay?"
"Do you remember the time when we all played paintball in my backyard?" She blurted out, and heard Jc's small laugh.
"I could never forget that day even if i wanted to."
As the two talked over the phone, Lucy felt her heart feel light in her chest as she spoke about the happy memories she had of her dad.
They talked for hours, leading into the early hits in the morning, when Lucy drifted off to sleep while listening to Jc's story.
