Lucy knocked on Jake's door, breathing heavily as she tried to think of what to say. By the time the teen opened the door, Lucy had barely even formed a proper sentence in her head.
"Hey, baby," Jake smiled, and pulled the girl into a hug. When she didn't answer, Jake grew concerned. "What's up?"
Lucy watched him try to usher her into the house, but she stayed put. "I'm not going inside," she murmured. Jake's look on his face made Lucy's heart drop.
"I just came here to tell you that I love you."
Her words rung through the air and the two stared at each other in silence. Jake's mouth opened to say something, but nothing came out.
His heart filled with joy as the words relayed in his ears. She loved him?
"And I'm sorry for doing this,"
Jake looked at her, a confused look plastered on his face. "For doing what?" He asked. Lucy swallowed thickly before answering. Her fingers tugged at the hem of her sweatshirt as she tried to speak.
"I'm going back to Cali for a while."
