My Morning Genocide

Sometimes the morning sun rises,
But is always resigned to set.
Falling as the moon advises;
For the moon is a safer bet.

Pale illumination flies high.
Making cool, soft shadows at night.
The world lets out a sleepy sigh.
But the moon too falls, with the light.

The sun burns the shadows away.
Mass murder begets a new day.
