The egg shook faintly, it's protective shell started to splinter and crack. The queen watched from only an inch away, all too excited.
Smolder watched with thorn, his eyes glassy. Onyx was a few feet away, not wanting to stand next to the queen she only tried to kill 3 years ago.

The egg shattered into a thousand pieces, spilling onto the smooth sandstone floor. The dragonet looked up at her new family, she squealed with delight and frantically flapped her wings.
Thorn scooped the dragonet up in her talons and held her firmly, eye to eye. "Hello, little one, I'm your mother." She cooed, her eyes glazed and star struck.

Smolder turned to onyx, and smiled "onyx?" The dragoness looked up, her crushed leg didn't move at all "do you want to name her?" Onyx frowned, but didn't say anything. Thorn turned to her and said "you can. . . ." With the slightest impatience in her voice.

"Sardonyx."
