Why Try

And, say that we got it,
I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted

We meet at the same coffee shop where we had our first date.

We're in the coldest month of the year, which is why your nose is red when you arrive.

We remain silent. After all, how do you start a conversation that may change your life for worse or for better?

I told you to meet me. I am the one who is keeping this wound opened. I should be the first to speak.

- Do you care about me?

- I do. A lot.

- Then why would you just pretend nothing happened?

- Because... it's complicated.

- I don't give a damn if it's complicated or not, Dan. Just tell me for once and for all if you want this. If you want us.

- I can't... I can't say so right now.

- Well, I won't sit here and wait  for you to make up your mind. Not anymore.

I realize that I should have taken a look at the weather forecast for tonight. The cold air hits me in the face while I walk out of the café.

My sobs sound louder that I intended on the way back to my place. People kept looking at me, but they don't seem to care enough to ask if I'm okay. And I thank god for that, because, I wouldn't know what to tell them if they did.
