"sir please, we need you to wait outside"

i slide down the wall next to the emergency surgery room,

"sir?" a nurse walking past catches my attention,

i look up,

"here, this was found next to your friend. maybe you could get hold of his parents" she smiles sadly handing me josh's cracked phone,

i silently tap away as i have already memorized his password.

i go through his contacts and realize there isn't even one called either 'mom' 'dad' 'father' 'mother 'grandma' 'uncle' or 'auntie',

he's always been alone.

instead at the top of his contacts in tobi,

my hand starts shaking and tears blur my vision and i think of what to tell the poor kid,

"c'mon simon, he deserves the right to know. none of this was your fault, you can't change someone's destiny." jj's voice says in the back of my head.

i nod to myself as i press voice call,

"hmm, hello? josh? you there? you ok?" tobi answers,

"tobi.."

"oh shit, jj? is that you jj? what are you doing with josh's phone? is he alright?"

"i-it's all my fault, tobi. he-he got hit, b-by a truck. they say he has a 50% chance of l-living"

"i'm coming right over," i hear tobi grab some keys,

"wait! tobi before you go, does josh have any family? that i-we could contact to let them know what happened?"

tobi sigh's,

"his last family member which was his brother died 5 years ago in a tsunami while on holiday in thailand. he has no family left, he came and stayed with us a while, but when he was 16 he moved into is brothers old house" his car door slams shut.

"o-ok, i'll be waiting"

i hang up.

"no family? god, josh. why didn't you tell me? damn it, this is all my fault"

i cry into my arms waiting for tobi and josh's safety.

"jj!" i look up from my lap now that i chose to sit on a chair instead of the floor,

"tobi?" i says nearly audible,

"oh gosh, are you ok? no that's a silly questions, you just saw your friend get hit by a truck" tobi rambles holding a hand over his mouth putting the other over my shoulder.

"i-it all happened so fast, to-tobi i'm so s-sorry" i start crying,

"shh, it's ok, i miss him like hell as well. but he's a strong bastard, we have to be strong, for him"

"tobi i, i l-love him" i blurt out,

the statement sort of catches him off guard,

"oh, really, how interesting" tobi mutters to himself evilly.

"for joshua bradley?" a doctor stands in the door way.

tobi and i instantly jump up,

"good news, he made it. he lost a lot of blood, fractured both his wrists broke his right leg in four different places, concussion, broken hip, muscle damage all over. the lads lucky he didn't break his back, you can go in and see him now. we'll take the oxygen mask of for 5 minutes, sorry that's all you've got" the doctor smiles sympathetically at me and tobi.

"josh!" tobi says sprinting into the room to his best friends bedside,

"oh josh, you always were the troublesome one" he smiles holding the side of his bed and crying,

"h-hey josh, i'm so sorry for e-everything. you deserve b-b-better then me, please, forgive me"

"i already have."
