Zander POV:
I sat in Red's frilly dining room with the small red haired woman across from me, watching as she drank a floral tea.
Briefly I noted she was in her dressing robe, the silk firmly closed up to her neck.
I would be a liar if I said I wasn't slightly disappointed.
She peered at me from over the rim of her teacup as I took in her makeup-less face. "You said that there is a meeting between alphas?"
"Yes..you look different without your powders and rouge."
Color tinted her cheeks briefly.
I smiled softly, "I like it, you look beautiful either way."
She pouted a bit, "then why are you not drinking your tea?"
"Red..." I sighed a bit although amused, "I can smell the poison you put in the cup."
Her pouting deepened, "boo. And here I was using my least pungent poison and my most pungent tea."
I chuckled at her antics, "yes well if it helps, the average wolfkin would not be able to tell."
"But you can."
I leaned back in the chair, "I am an alpha male Red. My blood is different than other wolves. You mentioned once that to my people I was akin to a king. Which is true in most aspects. But a king is still just a man like the rest, in some cases inferior to the subjects. I am not; I am stronger, faster, and larger than other wolves it is not easy to kill an alpha because we dominate in practically everything. For me that includes my sense of smell."
I blinked, "you expect me to believe you are better at everything?"
"Not everything Red." I smirked, "Just most things."
She seemed to think this over, "Okay. I will take your word for it until proven otherwise."
"I appreciate that."
Her lips closed around a biscuit as she gazed up at me.
Dear lord those blue eyes are going to end me before any poison ever could.
"So mr wolf, what alphas are you meeting with? And why?"
"The 12 in the accords. The largest packs known to this world."
Her brows furrowed, "your pack is one? The crown is unaware of that..it did not look too large. Big yes but I did not think it was infested."
I chuckled a bit, "you were on the main pack grounds little one. My pack has over 200 wolves. Your average pack has about 50, but there are small packs that are maybe ten or so wolves."
She hummed lightly, "so these larger packs all their alphas just go away for these meetings?"
"Yes. The Betas stay behind to watch the territory's."
She processed this, "and you host it?"
"This year yes."
Red chewed on her lower lip seeming to contemplate this information.
And then finally she spoke, "I refuse to stay out of the woods during this time."
