~Chapter 4 ~

I felt like a heavy, black cloud. Nothing to see. Nothing to hear. Just the fatigue and heaviness in my whole body. So heavy that I couldn't move, I could only hear faint sounds- annoying beeping, the constant murmur of voices. I could smell the room around me- the seducing scent of anesthesia and flowers accompanied by something I couldn't really put my fingers on. I felt sore all over. Everything hurt. If it already hurt so much just by laying down, I didn't even want to know what was going to happen when I'd be forced to move. My eyes slowly slide open to a dim light above me. Even though it's turned down low, it's blinding. I squint for a second, cringing.

As my eyes adjusted to the atmosphere, they dart around the room. The walls are painted a sterile white, on it are bulletin boards covered with pictures and cards. Along the wall is a counter, above it are flowers lining almost every inch of the counter. Bright, happy flowers that just don't seem to fit the mood in the room, even though I wasn't exactly sure what the emotion was. I didn't understand where I was, I kept looking for some indication but couldn't seem to find any.

I looked down at my body. A body that was covered in plaster casts, scared and bruised. Slowly, I get it- I was in a hospital. The scene rushes back to my mind. The pain, the abuse, a scream and then... darkness.

A monitor went off besides my bed and I realized that it was my heart pounding at the memory. It was only when I'd tasted salt, I realized that tears had started to fall from my eyes. Before I could compose myself, the door opened and a doctor in a white coat and a stethoscope around her neck walked in.

"You're awake" she said brightly.

"What happened?" I asked, though I remembered it perfectly. I just needed someone to confirm it.

"We don't know. There was a man who brought you to the hospital, he didn't exactly tell us what happened." she explained.

"So how bad was I injured" I questioned unknowingly.

"Both your legs are broken in several place. Your right arm is dislocated with five cracked ribs. Internal bleeding, we had to operate but you survived. You're going to be temporarily paralyzed, but it will go away." she explained.

"Wow" I whispered, my voice hoarse. "When can I leave this place? "

"You have to stay for two days until you recover from your temporary paralysis. "She answered.

"Thank you." The doctor nodded, leaving the room. My phone started ringing but I rolled over and ignored the call. Well, until it rang again and again and again.

"What?" I greeted, too tired to observe the screen for the caller Id.

"Is this the way to greet your best friend?" An angry voice resonated through the phone.

"I was just calling to check on you since you never answered my call for the past two days, Lexi." She reasoned.

"Sorry Rose, I just woke up to find myself in a hospital bed". I sighed, inhaling deeply.

"What?! Which hospital are you in?" She exclaimed, the panic evident in her voice.

"St. Thomas hospital, if I'm not mistaken."

"Alright I'll be there in a few minutes. Take care of yourself until I get there." With that she hung up. Whelmed with lethargy, I stirred in bed as I tried to get some sleep. The touch of the cool pillow made me feel relaxed and calm. The soft sheets gently rubbed against my skin as darkness surrounded me.

I'm driving my car, the six o'clock shadow competes with the obscurity outside. Suddenly, a faint silhouette flashes in the middle of the road, I don't see him until I feel my feet slam on the brakes. The faint smell of salt and rust is evident as my car flips over, my seat belt choking me. I remember looking over and desperately searching for the body, a body that could just have been my eerie imagination. Suddenly, I see a feet near my window and I scream.

It's Adrian.

He has a blade and a gun latched onto his pockets. He pulls the latter out and points it directly to me. Quickly grabbing his blade from his other pocket, I threaten him. A promising threaten. Without thinking about it, I stab him in the stomach. He falls to the ground, his skin as pale as a corpse. A corpse.

My car ignition fails to turn on. With every splutter and choke, my heart rises up. As I look to my right, the man is not there. The sudden click to my left turns my attention to the pale body on my passenger seat, a body pointing a gun towards me. The unfortunate click of the revolver resonates away into the oblivion.

I shot up straight, covered in sweat and pulsating breaths. Trying to get a sense of where I was, I come to a conclusion. I was in the ward, that part wasn't a dream. The rest was a terrible nightmare. Images flashed through my head all at once, like a gory kaleidoscope. Lowering my body back into a laying position, I stared at the ceiling.

That dream felt so real, so why did I have a bad feeling about it?
