|4|We Can Be Stars

51 15 11

They shine through the nights darkest
Their tiny selves twinkle and beam
They sparkle in the skies furthest,
They can be much more than what they seem.

They can bring out the best in us
As we stare into space above
Dust and fire mean nothing, but a star does
Remind us of joy and warmth and love.

A thousand emotions run by as I lay
On the grass with a body tired and worn.
A million thoughts of the long day
Spin in my mind until the night is gone.

One star big and bright catches my eye
Overshadowing other stars and darkness itself.
I wonder if I can be that star up high
And shine my way through all by myself.

We live in a world where darkness rules
The wind goes cold, the horizons close.
People say those who try are fools
Those people are but thorns, we are the rose.

In this dark world, let us be stars
Break through the blackest nights and arise,
We can guard the night sky wide and far
We can be stars, we can silence all cries.
