Or keep you awake at night.
His words can make you smile
Or they can make you cry.
His words can encourage you
Or they can make you feel worthless.
His words can make all of the decisions for you
If you let them.
You used to think it was love
Letting go of all the pain he caused you
To free your hands so you can hold on to those rare good times you had.
You became dependent on him
For everything.
To make your decisions.
To make you feel a certain way.
To make you happy.
But you fell too fast for him.
He had you wrapped around his finger.
He controlled you.
And you let it happen.
You couldn't see it.
You were too blind.
Too gullible.
Too naïve.
And you were too scared to step up and say something
When you did see it.
But you,
Being the loving
Caring
Insecure self you were,
And may still be,
Let it go
So you didn't make him mad
And end up hurt.
But you ended up hurt anyways.
You believed every word he said.
Like it was the last thing you would ever hear.
You knew he was cheating.
He came home drunk
With hickeys
And lipstick stains
And the smell of her perfume on his shirt.
But you didn't care.
You loved him.
You put his happiness before your own.
And that's where you fucked up.
You dismissed his stupid bullshit.
His lies.
All the pain he put you through.
And that's where you should've stopped it,
Other than dismiss it
And let it continue happening.
You said he didn't know what he was doing to you
That it wasn't his fault.
You tried to shield him from pain
By taking it all for yourself.
You tried to save him from himself
By letting him vent on you.
And it ended up destroying you.
You gave him your heart
And he played with it
Like it was a stress ball.
Like it was a punching bag.
Like it was some sort of toy.
And when he was done with it,
He threw it away,
Like it was trash.
Because it was broken
And he didn't care to fix it.
Now, here lies a girl who once loved with all she had.
Who gave life her all when it left her with nothing.
Who tried to not let it bring her down.
But most importantly,
Who never let others touch the ground,
And gave them the high they never deserved.
