Pure Bliss

When I was born, I was blind,

But very soon I started to see.

I saw a little taste of the world around me.

I saw the love of my parents,

The warmth of their smiles,

The compassion in their hearts,

And I knew that for me

They would always go the extra mile;

But this bright Pure Bliss would only last a while.

I saw just a tad more at the age of four or five.

I saw ponies and rainbows,

I saw pretty dresses and hairbows,

Funny cartoons on tv shows,

Princesses and their charming heroes,

But Pure Bliss would only last while.

A few more years passed,

And my eyes saw a bit more at last.

But the sight was not pretty like it used to be.

I saw strange things, evil words, scary thoughts.

Illness...death...divorce?

Was I seeing things that in reality were not?

My Pure Bliss was fading.

At this rate, she would soon become an afterthought.

Illness was taunting, looming, and scheming.

He struck either softly or wrathfully,

But never ever caring.

Death was too final.

I didn't want my loved ones to ever know him.

He was cold and pale,

Not warm like my parents.

I would never want him to touch them,

Not if I could help it.

Divorce, oh, Divorce.

Divorce never knew my parents,

But that didn't stop him from the others,

The others I cherished.

Divorce only knew one word: pain.

Pure Bliss was tainted now.

Her life started to fade.

Fast forward again,

Come on over to the present.

In the last few years,

I have heard of a few more tyrants.

There's Abortion, but I haven't properly met him.

There's Failure, I've had contact with him.

There are others, but I think you all have heard of them.

When the world seemed to be too grim,

Too vile, ugly at best,

I met a hero.

He was better than the princes whose stores I'd read.

For one, He said He could overcome evil,

And I found that to be true.

Pure Bliss was starting to listen too.

My hero said that bad things would keep coming,

But He'd always stay the same.

Always kind, loyal, and comforting.

Never cold, painful, or taunting.

Pure Bliss started smiling.

Pure Bliss is now brighter and happier than ever.

She plans on staying this way forever.

Sure, my eyes will see things I wished they hadn't seen,

And my heart might break at the news I receive.

But my hero is here,

And that's enough for me.

My Pure Bliss is through Him,

And I'm ready to face whatever I see.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed this first poem! I wrote this several weeks ago to describe what it's like for us to go through life and slowly lose our innocent view of the world. But I hope that you all have found Jesus and realized that with Him, we can always have pure bliss :) Love you guys!
