Chapter 2
Jacqueline's POV
The past few months had changed me completely. I had not been able to think straight after Peter came through my bedroom window and told me his true feelings about me. Since then, I had not spoken to him. I was too busy with work, and he was too busy with being Spider-Man and going to College. Our lives were both too complicated, and I simply had to shut him out so I could focus on living as normal as possible. All I wanted to do was focus on my photography, and think about the job offer from a modelling agency in England. I still had not told Peter, and because I had not spoken to him in a long time, I probably wasn't going to tell him.
As usual, I made my way to work. I was greeted by the calm summer wind as I walked out of my apartment and out onto the street. Every day, the warmth of the sun would make me feel happy and would help me to forget about my troubled past. It wasn't until I got to work that my dad's yelling would rain on my parade and make me feel negative again.
As I walked into the Daily Bugle building, a sharp pain filled my left arm. I dropped my things and held my arm tightly as the pain began to slowly go away. When I went to pick up my photos which had scattered all over the floor, someone else did it for me. It was Peter. I was so surprised to see him.
"Peter?" I whispered, looking up at the tall figure I once called a best friend.
"Jacqueline, I haven't seen you in a long time," Peter said in a calm tone, which was unusual for someone who usually sounded like they were full of life.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I took my things from him.
"My Aunt May is low on cash and I need to earn some form of money for her," Peter said as we both walked towards the elevators.
"So you want a job?"
"No, I just want to hand in photos whenever I can for some money, You know, freelance."
We walked out of the elevator and into my dad's office. We were welcomed by the strong scent of cigar smoke. I coughed as I walked over to my dad's desk, waiting patiently for him to finish talking on the phone.
"He's not going to yell at me, is he?" Peter whispered.
"You'll be fine, trust me," I replied, winking.
My dad slammed his phone onto his desk and turned in his seat to face us. He greeted us with a smile as he gestured for us to sit down.
"Nice to see you again, Peter! As well as my lovely daughter!"
"Hey dad, Peter came in to hand in some photos. He needs some cash to give to his aunt," I said before Peter could open his mouth.
"Let me take a look at these photos," my dad replied.
Peter took his photos out of his backpack and handed them to my dad. We sat in silence as my dad went through Peter's photos, viewing each picture's every detail.
"I'll give you $200 for the lot! I'm feeling extra generous today!" my dad shouted suddenly, startling the both of us.
"Thanks Mr. Jameson. I'll hand more photos in when I get the chance," Peter said as he stood up.
My dad handed him a piece of paper to take to the front desk so he could collect his pay. Peter walked out of the office before I had the chance to speak to him. He was probably torn about me rejecting him a few months back. I had still felt bad for saying no, but in the end it was the right choice. I sat back down in my seat as my dad started watching TV. He turned to me with a confused look on his face.
