or when the news shatters you.

"where is she?" i asked the girl in front of me as i gestured toward the vacant seat to my left. she'd been quiet for weeks, and despite claiming having been my best friend, had been acting awry. wouldn't speak to me or anyone except her new inner circle.

the words that i'd never wished to be true toppled out of her mouth. eventually, the girl said that she had written a suicide note to one of her friends. said that she was in urgent care today.

i texted her immediately. i nearly cried when she actually responded.

the day was written as the turnaround of a tragedy. she decided that life was better than death by tylenol, that it was worth it.

i promised her that come monday, i would hug her so so tightly and never let her go. i was in tears knowing that she ever thought death was a good option.

the girl with the dark skin and red pieces in her weave and the sad eyes was not dead. that was all that mattered.
