Chapter 5

I look at Katniss, she puts a finger to her mouth to signal for me to be quiet. I nod at her in agreement. 'Let's look for her.' Says Cato. Katniss' eyes widen, 'Lets go' Glimmer says, grabbing her sword. ' I'll keep guard' I say. Cato nods and says 'Stay safe, okay?'. I nod 'Yeah' and they disappear. I jump over the bushes to see Katniss, her bow pointing at me 'Whoa easy easy easy' I say, 'I'm just here to help.' 

'That's what they all say' says Katniss, 'your a career how can I trust you?' 

'I have a sister too. Her names Fiera and she's 9.' 

Katniss puts down  her bow, 'Did you volenteer?' She asks. I shake my head 'I don't wanna be in these games anyway, Cato told the girls not to volenteer if my name was called. That's we he volunteered, to be with me'. She freezes. 'Fine, allies?' She asks, sticking out her hand. 'Don't let them kill me, ditch them when you can.'  I nod and shake her hand. 'Deal' I say. I step over the bushes and sit back at camp. Katniss is still in the bushes. I hear a rustle of bushes behind me. 'Cato?' I call out. No answer. I open my jacket and pull a knife from my vest and hold it in my hand. I see Katniss put a arrow in her bow. Her eyes widen 'CLOVE DUCK!' She screams. I do a dive roll to the right, my knife still in my hand. I see Katniss' arrow fly to the girl from 8. She falls to the ground as the arrow hits her chest. Her cannon sounds and her picture is in the sky. I look at Katniss who stands up. I run to her and hug her 'Thank you' I say. 'She almost  had a knife to your throat' says Katniss 'I couldn't not save you, besides we're allies now' she lets go 'Come find me when your done with them' she calls out. And she runs off into the night. 

Cato, Marvel and Glimmer return just after Katniss left. I'm still standing at the bushes where Katniss was. Marvel points to the girl 'You?'.  I nod 'Third kill today' I lie. 'Who else did you get?' Asks Marvel. 'Girl from 3 and boy from 9, and now girl from 8' I say, 'Did you find her?' I ask. Marvel shakes his head. They lay down their weapons and sit. 'I'll take first watch' says Marvel. I sit up against a tree and use my jacket as a pillow.  Cato sits next to me. I put my head on his chest and use my jacket as a blanket. 'Good job with 8' he whispers. 'Thanks' I say and we kiss again. I fall asleep almost instantly. 

I wake with a start. I survived my first night in the games. I look to see everyone's still asleep. I get up and walk over the bushes to find food. I see some berries. Nightlock. There poison. I stick them in my pocket and save them for someone clueless to eat. I keep walking to see Peeta from 12 making a fire. 'Peeta?' I say. He turns around and grabs a sword. I put my hands up in surrender. 'I just wanna be friends' I say, which is a lie but I still want to keep Katniss alive. 'Where's Katniss, you killed her yet?' He says panicked. I shake my head, 'We've made an alliance, Cato and the others are after her.'  Peeta looks at me, fear in his eyes. He puts down the sword. 'Thank you' I breathe. 'I promise I'll keep her alive' I walk away, the berries still in my pocket. I go back to camp. They are all still asleep. I wake up Cato 'Hey, you should start looking now' I say. He groans as the other two wake up. 'Okay' he says as he stretches. 'Who's coming to find 12?' He asks Glimmer and Marvel. Marvel raises his hand 'I will'. So he and Cato go off. Glimmer and I sit for a while, I remember the berries. I pull them out of my pocket and show Glimmer 'Want some?' I ask. She looks cautiously 'Are they nightlock?' I shake my head 'Blueberrys'  I say. 'Do are you gonna eat some?' She asks 'Nah I already did'  I lie. She takes a handful and eats them. Then she starts choking, and white froth comes to her mouth. Her hand reaches her throat and she turns blue. She lies down, her breathing becomes heavy. I stand over her, pretending to look scared. Her breathing stops and her eyes turn cold. Her cannon fires and I close her eyes. The hovercraft arrives to take her body and I move out of the way. I feel bad about killing her but I know that I needed to get rid of her to go to Katniss. 'CLOVE!!!!' I hear Cato shout my name, 'IM HERE' I shout back. He and Marvel run through the bushes. 'Where's Glimmer?' Asks Marvel. 'She's dead, that was her cannon' I say 'ate nightlock'. Cato looks at Marvel who looks like he's gonna be sick. 'I'm sorry, Marvel' I say rubbing his back as he sits next to me.  It starts to rain 'That's Glimmer, she loved the rain' says Marvel sadly. The rain turns in to thick rain drops and lightening strikes. The lightning strikes further behind the bushes. A cannon sounds. I suddenly realise who's cannon it was

It was Peetas.

'RUN' Marvel screams. And we all make a run for it down the other side of the forest. The rain becomes thicker and it starts to hurt. Cato slips and falls on his knees. He gets up and we jump over trees. We keep running and lightning strikes again. A bolt hits Marvel and he goes to a crisp. His cannon fires and I stop, panting for air, turning to what would be Marvel: ash. 'Come on, Clove let's keep going' breathes Cato. I keep staring 'Clove let's go' he says. I run ahead of him. The rain gets thicker and more painful. I have to put my jacket over my head to stop it cutting me. Another lightning bolt strikes. It hits my arm and I fall to the ground screaming. I touch it and its bleeding badly. Cato stands over me 'Clove, babe can you hear me?' He goes fuzzy. Then my vision goes black

I wake up in a cave. Catos by my side holding my hand in his and holding it to his mouth. 'Thank god your alive' he says. 'I'm fine' I say 'How long have I been out?' I ask. 'A few hours' he says 'the bleedings stopped' I feel my arm. A chunk of it, maybe the size of a coin has been taken off after it was struck. 'Anyone else?' I say. He shakes his head. 'I'll be fine' I say. 'My vest, is it still on?' He peels off my jacket, it's still there. 'The knives in your belt fell out, I've got the, here' he says showing me. I grab them and hug them 'I missed my babies.' Cato laughs. The Fallen presentation plays and I go out of the cave to see. Glimmer, Marvel and Peeta are shown. I feel bad that I couldn't save Peeta. I better keep my  promise that I keep Katniss alive. She must be out here somewhere. With Glimmer and Marvel dead, I'll ditch Cato and find Katniss in the morning. We head back in the cave 'Get some rest, okay?' Cato says. I nod and fall asleep 

I wake up. Day three of the games. I see Cato with his head on my lap. I smile and stroke his hair. I move his head and put it on his jacket. I take one last look at him, still sleeping. 'Goodbye for now' I think and head off to find Katniss.

I walk out of the cave to find its on the edge of the cornicopia. I don't see her there so I keep walking. I walk around it and I walk through the forest. I hear a cannon 'KATNISS?' I shout. No answer. I run through the forest, jumping over bushes and trees. I run into someone. Katniss. 'There you are' I say. She hugs me. 'Who's left?' She asks me, 'was that Cato?' I shake my head 'I'm sorry about Peeta' I say. She looks to the ground. 'Thanks, and I'm sorry about Glimmer and Marvel' she says. 'I killed Glimmer'  I say

'What?' 

'Gave her nightlock, she was dead within seconds' 

Katniss smiles 'I'll get some food, keep guard, this is our camp' I nod. I sit down , watching Katniss shoot. I respect Katniss, and I hope she respects me. I think her and I are going to be good friends.
