A Pause In a Rewind

Chapter IV : Juncture

When the sun falls, the night is nigh. The life fades into shadows and lights shimmer across the place. The sky is filled with glamorous stars and the snow falls majestically. When the world is asleep, time still runs down.

While waiting for himself to succumb to tiredness, Perry still thinks of two things in his head. It's all on to the new people he met and the weird pocket watch that he seemed to be unable to forget.

He just sighs and looks up the ceiling of his room. He just took a deep inhale and then falls asleep. Through the night, the pocket watch continues on ticking. But the noise doesn't seem to bother the boy.

It was awake up all night. After hours of ticking, and to which it was already dawn, it halts the sound and closes the lid. Perry then slowly opens his eyes again and welcomes a new day.

- Friday, December 29, 2028

When Perry sees the bright sunshine, he smiled, but then quickly falls back down to his resting paradise. He bounces as he falls to his bed and returns back to sleep.

The time was nearly about when he should be awake. Perry once again awakens and sees the alarm clock. It was 5 in the morning, but the lad told himself, "Nah...It's...a bit too early. Maybe another 5 minutes" as he yawns and curls up back to slumber.

It took another cycle of relentless position changes until Perry finds a good spot to sleep again. But as soon as he finally positions himself, the alarm went off. It was already a quarter to six. The loud beeping interrupts Perry's slumber. And as expected he turns the alarm off and sleeps again.

*Beeping*

It was almost six when Perry opens his eyes yet again. He said, "Aw, it's already past six. Maybe I'll try again at sharp seven" jokingly. When he tried to sleep again, he realized what he just said. His eyes spread wide open and spontaneously repeat the phrase, "It's past six!" over and over.

He cleans up his room and himself as he quickly undresses like a snake and heads straight to the bathroom. As cold water pours down onto him, nothing could you only think, but freezing screams coming from the bathroom.

*Shrieks*

His mother, who's carrying laundry came to the bathroom door and calls to him as he showers, "Morning, champ! Are you in a rush or something?" Perry then replied, "No, mom! I'm just having a cryo-suspension! Cold as f-"

His mother just rolled her eyeballs and went to the kitchen. His father, who always come home late, told Perry to be earlier next time. He then knocks on the bathroom's door and called, "Hey, Perry! You're a bit early than usual.

Perry didn't bother and just rushes to get ready. He wore his shirt and boxers before he went to eat his breakfast hurriedly. His parents looked at him weirdly. They didn't complain until Perry almost choked on his meal. His mom said, "Easy, kiddo. What's the rush? You have always been like this. Are you planning on a New Year's resolution?" as he gives him a glass of water.

Perry just nods and smiles. He then climbs back up on his room tumbling. He then quickly wears his school uniform and slacks. He prepares himself when suddenly, his pocket watch opens its lid. The boy noticed it and approached the clock.

He reaches for it and puts it in his pocket with slight hesitation. Perry then proceeds to go outside when his father called him to wave goodbye. He waved back and told his father that things have been awesome before he leaves. He then ran to the sidewalk. His parents talked to each other, "Is that the effect of puberty?"

At the front gate of the glamorous Everlasting Blue Private High School, Perry checks the time and walks straight in. He hurriedly went inside the campus into his locker and grabbed his stuff. While busy getting ready, a hand crawls from his backpack to his head and pats it. Perry slowly whispered, "Nero? Jayce?" as he turns around. It was his best friend, Olim. He wears glasses, has blonde hair, and has an arm sling.
