When Kim returned we got in to my car and I drove to Brandi's house. Kim waited in the car while I went and knocked on the door. Her mom opened the door and rolled her eyes at me. I had grown so use to her attitude that I just ignored her and walked in to the house.
"You know Brandi's not handicapped and could drive on her own?" Brandi's mom smacked her lips.
"Well she's not. She could pop any day now and I won't take a risk," I replied, then yelled, "Brandi!"
"I'll be down in a minute!" she yelled back.
"You acting like you really care. I bet if my daughter was out of the way, you wouldn't have to worry about the problems that are getting in your way."
"Okay, what's your problem lady? She's not a problem to me, you are. You diss me every time I come around here."
"You leaving my daughter to be a single mother."
"She single but not alone, you always see me doing my job, so why you throwing me shade? It's crazy that you can't recognize the good things I do."
Just then Brandi came down stairs.
"I'm ready, Mom, you're bringing the rest of the stuff right?"
"Yeah," was all she said before she went in to the kitchen.
Brandi and I left out and went to my car.
"I'll get in to the backseat," Kim offered.
"It's okay girl, I need the space," Brandi said opening the back door.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I need to spread out."
"Okay." I helped Brandi in to the back seat and then got in the car. I made sure Brandi and Kim were both buckled up before I drove off.
As soon as we got to the hall I noticed a man standing at the door. He looked vaguely familiar but I couldn't put my finger on who he was. I proceeded to open both doors for Kim and Brandi, then helped Brandi out of the backseat.
We walked in the door and Brandi was to my right and Kim was to my left. When we walked passed the man at the door he greeted us, all while staring Kim down. That's when I realize that this was ol' boy from the night we had dinner at Kim's.
As soon as we made it inside I pulled Kim to the side.
"What is he doing here?" I asked calmly.
"This is his hall. He was here to make sure everything was cool before he left."
"How come you didn't tell me this was his hall."
"Maybe if you rented it yourself instead of sending Brandi to do it you would've found out."
"But you knew."
"No, I just found out this morning."
"And you didn't tell me?"
"No, because I knew you would over-react. Just like you're doing right now. And before you go on the guest are arriving, so chill."
The baby shower was going okay. I meet a lot of Brandi's family. It was expected for some people not to like me even though there wasn't a real reason to.
"Don't worry about them, your families first impression of me probably would be bad too. They''ll come around to understand that life isn't always black and white. We get curved balls thrown our way at least once in our lives. Well this is our curved ball."
