i heard a knock on my door so i rushed to open it and was surprised to see a little girl crying her eyes out.

"hey, hey, sweetie, what's wrong?" i asked, bending down in front of her. she ran to me and wrapped her arms around my neck.

"i lost my daddy!" she cried. i sighed sympathetically and picked the girl up so she could cry into my shoulder.

"don't worry, honey, we'll find your daddy," i said. i shut my front door and looked down the street to see if i could see a worried man running around.

"do you know where your house is?" i asked the girl. she shook her head and i sighed again.

"i want my daddy!" she sobbed.

"we'll find him."

just as i said that, the door of the house opposite mine opened and a handsome young man ran out, yelling a girl's name. the little girl in my arms' head shot up and she turned to the man.

"daddy!" she yelled. he looked over at us and i saw him visibly sigh in relief before running over. he took the girl from me and held her close to him.

"jisoo, baby, don't leave like that," he said.

"i'm sorry, daddy. i didn't find you so i found nice lady across the street instead," jisoo said. the man looked at me again and smiled gratefully. i felt my heart leap at how beautifully the smile lit up his face.

"thank you so much for keeping her safe," he said.

"no problem at all," i replied. "you must be the new neighbours."

"we are. just moved in yesterday," he said.

"well, it's nice to meet both of you." i smiled at jisoo and she smiled back.

"you're pretty," she said.

"thank you," i replied.

"isn't she pretty, daddy?" she said.

"yes sweetie," the man said. "i'm chanyeol, by the way."

"(y/n)."

"nice to meet you." he smiled again so i smiled back.

"would you maybe want to come over and have some coffee or something?" i asked. chanyeol looked at his daughter who nodded enthusiastically.

"sure," chanyeol said. we walked into my house and chanyeol put jisoo down to let her explore.

"your wife won't mind, right?" i asked.

"oh, i'm not married. anymore," chanyeol said.

"oh, i'm sorry."

"don't be, it's better this way. being around her wasn't safe anymore, that's why jisoo and i moved here."

"well, i'm glad you're okay now."

jisoo ran back over and tugged on chanyeol's shirt so he picked her up.

"daddy, can she be my new mommy?" she asked. chanyeol and i both blushed and he stuttered out a reply.

"baby, we just met," he said.

"so? she's pretty and i like her and i want her to be my mommy," she said. i giggled and reached out to tickle her cheek.

"that's not how it works, sweetie. your daddy and i just met and although he's very handsome, we can't just get married, okay?" she pouted for a second before smiling again.

"what about tomorrow?" she asked. i laughed and shook my head.

"why don't you go into the other room and find some toys to play with," i said, tickling her stomach. she nodded so chanyeol put her down and she ran off.

"kids," he said. i smiled and lead him into the kitchen. i made us some coffee then we sat down at the kitchen table.

"i like your daughter, she's very cute," i said.

"thanks. i think she likes you, too."

"so it would seem."

"at least we know we'd have her support." i smiled and nodded. jisoo ran back into the room with some toys so chanyeol scooped her up and we all played together. i'm glad they're my new neighbours.
