Finding My Song

                                                                Prologue

        I scanned the school’s front yard as I waited for Cherri. I stood with my school bag, and my umbrella just in case it rained.

        When I finally found Cherri, I called her over. ‘What took you so long? ‘I asked when she finally reached me.

            "Oh, sorry, Jade, I just caught up talking to my friend, "she replied. I smiled. "Was this so called friend named, Tyler?" I asked, almost teasing her. Then her hazel eyes lit up at the name Tyler.

                 "Uh no, it was Natalie " she sounded hesitant. "Oh, really? " I said while looking at Tyler. "Look, here comes, Tyler, now!"

               "What! Where?!" Cherri said while she began panicking.

                I cracked up and started to burst out laughing, when suddenly, her panicked face faded to a slight smile. "Just kidding .Yeah, okay, good job trying to keep your little lie," I said and her cheeks turned a shade of pink.

                 I loved picking on Cherri; she was so easy to trick. She did have a smart mind, but sometimes she could be a little clueless. I giggled... can't blame her, unfortunately, it runs in the family.

       As we walked home, it started to rain, so I took out my umbrella and Cherri took out hers. Then, rain pounded on my umbrella as I got this chilly feeling.

             I heard sirens as we got closer to our homes. Oh no, I thought. Not wanting to scare Cherri, I kept quiet. I knew something was off.

         We turned towards our apartment when I saw an ambulance shining in the distance.

            "Oh no! " I said worriedly, running towards the truck. I arrived at the back and saw what I will never forget. My mom was lying on a cot with blood spreading through her shirt. My eyes started to water, and my hands started to shake.

              When Cherri came, she did the same thing and looked straight at our dad. She yelled at him; blaming him for what happened to mom.

                 She never liked dad. Well he's not our real dad. After we were born, our real dad left for the military, and never came back. My mom, being desperate, married again to our current dad, John. He was very mysterious, and he didn’t seem to care much about us at all.

                  He was just some alcoholic who spent too much time outside with his buddies, and came home at midnight for most of the days. What he really wanted all along was the money. Maybe he married mom just for proving to his side of the family that he can actually get a woman to marry him. However, I never thought that he would kill mom.  

                   Cherri was outraged because she loved mom and wanted mom to stay safe. Now that she seen mom going off to the hospital, dying, she was really mad.

                    She began to hit dad like a little child not actually causing any damage. But dad didn't care he hit her knocking her to the ground and causing her to sob. I ran over to comfort Cherri as the police wisked dad away to court.

                      And there we were standing in the rain, our hair now sticking to our faces. The next day we got a call from the lawyer stating that dad lost custody and that we are moving.

                   " Moving !! Where there's nowhere else to go!" I exclaimed. She sighed in thought. ' Well you could always live with your moms sister Ms. Rachel Skyler. ' she replied. Aunt Rachel? Well it's not that bad she lived in Florida and had a big house, she wasn't rich though.

" Well maybe but I'm not so sure about this " I said. " Just think about it because I don't think you'd want to live in a foster home. " she said laughing.

                      Why is she laughing?! We're deciding were i am living and trust me i do not want to live in a foster home! I thought about it for a bit and then made my decision.

" Okay we'll live with Aunt Rachel" I finally reply.

 " Great! So see you tomorrow withthe moving truck?" 

                            "Okay"  I say then hang up.

                       I hang up the phone then began walking out of the kitchen.

                        " Whats going on?" I hear. I turn around and see Cherr i standing there with a Slurpee cup. " We're moving in with Aunt Rachel" I say.
