Emily recovered quickly, thanks to the care of Patrick and Janessa. Janessa's reading skills improved tremendously, and by the time school began in, she was allowed to enter the fourth grade with no restrictions.
Patrick and Emily were married in the fall. Janessa was the flower girl, and Miranda Allen stood next to Emily as the Matron of Honor. Tom Allen, her husband, was Patrick's Best Man. The couple had a simple honeymoon, camped out in the farthest, prettiest spot of their property.
The following summer, Emily announced that she was expecting. They all agreed that if the baby was a girl, they would name her Charity, reminding them of what they all had to learn when a newspaper ad threw them together.
