An effort made for the happiness of others lifts above ourselves.

I could feel the warmth of my coffee mug burning my hand, it hurt, but I was just too tired to care. I drug my middle finger lazily around the rim and yawned loudly, trying to think of something else to write. I smiled as I heard the metal clinking of the ring my mother gifted to me last Christmas against the porcelain mug.

I heard a faint noise and looked down to see my cat, Arrow, fast asleep. I look at him longingly, I wish I was a cat. They don't have to write college essays at two in the morning. I wasn't even half way done yet. I seriously should have listened to my mom when she said not to take debate first semester.

I groaned, oh well I'll finish this later, I'm too tired to think. I turn off my computer and crawl into bed. Arrow joins me wanting to be pet. "Goodnight buddy," I tell him, in response I get a purr.

"Hey get up and turn your alarm off," My roommate, Amelia, says her voice heavy with sleep and annoyance

"Hey get up and turn your alarm off," My roommate, Amelia, says her voice heavy with sleep and annoyance.

"Shh," I slurred, "Don't speak."

"Nova, if you don't turn off your alarm I'll kill you," Amelia threatens. "Nov!" She groans again after I fail to move.

"Alright, alright, I'm up." I look at the clock beside my bed and see that it's ten in the morning.

I silently thank God that I don't have morning classes and start a pot of coffee.

"Come on Milly you gotta get up, we've got classes in about three hours." She mumbles something incoherent into her pillow in response, I shake my head and throw a spare pillow at her.

"Hey!" She shouts as I laugh swiftly running into the bathroom before she can retaliate.

I turn the shower on, making sure the water is basically boiling before I get in and start getting ready for the day.

I hear noises coming from the kitchen which tells me Milly's up, or Arrow has decided to try and break my potted plant yet again.

I'm betting it's probably the latter.

"Hurry up in there, you're gonna use all the hot water," Milly yells banging on the door.

"Alright princess don't get your panties in a twist, I'm coming," I roll my eyes and shout back.

With an annoyed sigh I cut off the pure bliss of warm water and set out of the shower, rushing to put my clothes on as the cold air nips my soaking wet body.

I quickly throw on some sweatpants and a hoodie, welcoming the warmth it provides. "It's all yours," I say in a mocking tone, as I walk past a very annoyed Milly, "Finally."
