"What no of course not." I said.
"No, no. Yes, Yes." He looked me straight in the eyes.
"What? Is your angel and devil speaking for you now." Yeah I know bad joke.
"What? What I mean by no is "no don't lie to me." and what I mean by yes is "yes I do." or "yes you are." "
"Okay, your crazy, I'm gonna head back now." which I should have did.
"Well not yet, I mean I will know you, once we become friends." I just stared at him with this grin.
"Your funny. You got jokes but don't worry I got those too." wrong.
"Are you sure about that, because that joke you used earlier, well, it wasn't that good."
"Oh, shut up." Yes that was the "I like you shut up"
"Friends?" He asked
Of course I replied with "Friends."
After that we finished the tour, mostly talking about things we like to do. I still showed him around...okay I'm not gonna lie I showed him two class rooms, his favorite subjects, Math and Lunch. Yeah I know Lunch isn't really a class, but at the time I thought it was cute how he thought it was. No, we didn't like the same subjects I of course, liked Language Arts and Literature, well sometimes, most times, I go down to the ninth graders and help out during there classes. After that we just sat on the stairwell and got to know each other well, then he got a call from his mom,
"Yes mom?" he answered
"Oh right, we're sorry mom."
"No mom."
"Yes okay."
"Okay we're heading back now. Mom we're walking there now." we weren't walking there now, we were sitting in a stairwell.
"My mom says we been down here for an hour, and she thought we were probably doing something."
"Like doing something doing something."
"Yes, but she also said she wouldn't mind because you seem like a great girl, which you are." he explained while we slowly walked back.
"Thank you, but no." I replied
"No what?" he looked at me confused
"No we weren't doing something."
I saw a sigh of relief go over him and he said
"Oh yeah right." He laughed trying to play it off but I noticed something but I wasn't sure about it.
When we got back, his mother was just staring at me hard core staring, but it wasn't like a "I hate this girl" stare it was more like a "she'd be perfect" stare. I did know what she think I'd be perfect for but me and Emilio were just growing friends.
"Ahem." the stepdad cleared his throat
"Oh yes sorry. So how was it Emilio." His mother asked.
"It was great mom." he answered
"Did you see anything you like." then she looked at me, I just looked down at my Converses and then look up.
"Mom this is school, nobody likes it or anything about it." then he looked at me and I knew why he looked at me, because he told me all about how he loved sitting in math class not having to think about any problems, well except for the ones on his paper, but I guessed he didn't tell his parents, so I guess he gave me the "Don't mention it look" or just a look, but I didn't mention it.
"Im so sorry Nova, he just, well I don't even know, I hope he wasn't rude on the tour." I knew what was wrong he was just in his shell and wasn't coming out to his parents.
"Oh it's okay. Wait it's not okay because there is no need to apologize, he was fine and I think he is great." I said that and then the stepdad just scoffed.
"Hey, look, people make mistakes, nobody is perfect, and please don't tell me your name is nobody." Emilio just smiled at me.
"Not the 'mistakes' he has made, you don't know nothing about this boy, all you know so far is that he hates school. Doesn't that say something about him?" the stepdad asked.
"You're right I know nothing about him." I looked at Emilio and we both laughed and it was getting to the "We are best friends laugh", his mother and stepdad just stared at us.
Then all of a sudden the stepdad wanted to leave. They talked to the principal and consoler and was on their way out.
"Well I guess I'll see you on your first day." then my phone dinged and it read
"Or at the skatepark tomorrow."
"Okay guess I'll see you my first day."
Oh I didn't mention that we exchanged numbers did I, well we did.
"Which will be tomorrow." the stepfather said as the schools front doors closed behind him.
"Okay." Emilio threw up the peace sign as he left.
"I think he likes you." One of the girls from the club teased. "Shut up." I rolled my eyes.
