Chapter Six: Not a Date

"Ma, I need you to watch Nora because-"
"Because mami's going on a date!" I just love my daughter.
"What, a date with, Emilio?"
"For one don't say his name like that and for two, its not a date, it's simply just a catch up on the times he's missed with his daughter."
"Okay I'll watch her, have fun." Then all of a sudden my brain just kept replaying Emilio's mom saying "Have Fun."
"Nova?"
"Oh yes mom, have fun. I'll be there with Nora in about twenty minutes."
"Oh."
On the way there, to Nora's abuela's, Nora was talking about the plans for her party, but I wasn't listening, I kept thinking about the tour and this date...its not a date.
"Bye mom."
"Don't worry and I didn't want to say it but try to-"
"Yes I know have fun."
I said bye to Nora and then I was on my way.
I texted Emilio,

What else was I supposed to say he made me smile. I hope this isn't a date im not really dressed for one, I have on a white pencil dress with a red flannel tied around it, with black boots.
I pulled up to the restaurant, ready. As I walk in hes the first person I noticed, he looks the exact same, brown hair, brown eyes, muscles, okay I think Im staring way to long.
"Hey." perfect "Hey is always the conversation starter.
"Hey, long time no see." okay that made me mad, hes the reason for "Long time no see."
"I wonder why?" I said that to make him mad.
"Nova I just wasn't ready-"
"Yes table for two." I needed to sit down. The waiter asked us for our drink, I asked for a,
"Water."
He asked for,
"Water."
"Hey haven't you always wondered, If your waiting for the waiter aren't you the waiter?" I guess that was his was of starting conversations. "You were always good at those things." What else should I have said. "What do you mean "were" I still am since you just, laughed." I didn't laugh but he was trying to make me.
"I laughed?" I asked while trying to hold my smile back.
"Anyways, what does Nora want for her birthday?" He asked.
"Huh?" I don't understand.
"I asked-"
"No I understand what you asked, you can't just come in her life with all these gifts, shes a kid, the first thing she'll love about you is that you buy her things."
"What do you mean, Its her birthday." he tried to explain.
"Emilio, the best gift you can get her is you. She told me she has been wondering about you, but scared to ask me about you. Just seeing your face will probably be the best gift she gets."
"Oh I see, so you want me to show up there and say 'Come here my loving daughter' and then you expect her to say "Oh, dad I've missed you." No I dont think so. Does she even call me dad?"
"Well she called you dad but when I told her your name she started calling you Emilio so I don't know."
"Oh, okay. Well what have you been up to in life."
Okay I dont know if he changed the subject because he really wants to know about me or hes mad because Nora calls him Emilio.
"Um, Im a writer, what are you a math teacher," I laughed. "I remember when you said you liked math." man I though that was so funny. "I actually am a math teacher, highschool math." he said that with a very serious face.
"Oh I am very sorry--"
"No its fine Nova, maybe you thought I was joking when I told you I liked math like when my parents thought I was joking when I said Im going to college to be a math teacher, but Its fine."
I think this meeting is over since, its not a date." He said while getting up.
"Emilio wait, I am sorry." I said while following out the door.
"I just came here to talk about our daughter, and see what I can do, but obviously you really dont want me in her life." It sounded like he was about to cry.
"No, No, I want you in her life but shes a kid I dont want her to get the wrong impression of you, I want her to know how loving, caring, enjoyable, smart, affectionate, devoted, sexy--" Oh My God did I just say that out loud.
"Oh wow, Im sorr--" I tried to explain myself but he just kissed me. While we were kissing all these memories of him just shot through my mind and left.
"Wow." we both said.
"Maybe I should go." We both said.
As I walked to my car I was smiling the whole time, I felt unstoppable, invensible.
I called my mom and asked her if Nora was gonna stay or not and Nora was sleep so I just went home.
While I was driving I was think about every thing thats just happend in the last Hour and thirty minutes.

Should I have answered his question, I didnt know what to say. "No of course not, come do it again." No definitely not.
