I caught a taxi and made my way to the company that decided to take a chance on me and publish my novel.
The whole 15 minutes that it took to get to the building was spent in me calming my nerves and fidgeting in the back seat. Resulting in the taxi driver staring at me as if I was a mental patient.
"That would be £10" he said in a low voice which was barely audible. I gave him what I owed him and took off for the double door entrance, the building was old however was freshly white washed with a breath taking front garden.
I presed the buzzer and announced ny name to the secretary who immediately let me in.
I was expecting a party not for my birthday as I had not mentioned it to them, but for the release of my book which I had been working on for a year, but was disappointed when everyone who helped with the book like Anna who helped with the cover or Sophie who proof read the book, were just carrying on with their day normally.
I walked up to Christie, with an appreciative smile, hoping none of my despair shone through. She immediately embraced me and we started jumping up and down like little girls in the Disney store.
"Today's the day, come on I'm taking you out for a celebratory meal." This stopped me from squealing and engulfed Christie in another bone crushing hug.
"Wait, book store first, please?" I said as I could hardly contain my excitement. Christie just sighed and ushered me towards the door for us to leave, however before doing so, I fished the presents for Anna and Sophie out of my bag and handed it to the secretary who promised she would get them to the right individuals.
I had spent a week contemplating what to get them both. Anna was a petite fiery red head, she was only 5ft 4 and Sophie was a tall model like blonde and was incredibly professional; both were exact opposites, resulting in me taking a week to find the right presents.
I looked up to Christie who was looking at me intently " Don't worry, yours is right here." I assured her whilst patting my bag. She smiled in return and we left.
We went to the book store and I ran to my books which were on display and got Christie to take a couple of pictures with me making wierd faces with the books. After immediately uploading them to Instagram, we both set out to the restaurant.
Once we arrived and were seated at Nandos, I took out the plane ticket and started to explain where I was going to be for the next few months. At first Christie was excited and once she realised the date her smile faded. "What about the book tour, I've spent forever planning it." I gasped in shock, I had forgotten all about the tour, where I was to meet fans and sign a few copies.
" Well... um... Can we do it next year? There will be more fans and we could visit more places." I tried saying in a hopeful tone, to persuade her.
"Fine" she said looking up at me, Christie knew about the bucket list and was lenient as she knew I only had a short while to complete it in.
"What about your mother?" She asked and by the look on my face, she could tell I hadn't thought about it and quickly said "Don't worry I'll take care of her, me and Isabel, we will visit every day." Christie was Isabels cousin and was the reason why my book had gotten published, through her shear determination and my so-called talent. " Thank you so much!" I put emphasis on the 'so' to show how appreciative I was and we went back to deciding what we both wanted. However, my mind had flickered back to the thought that I would be in Haiti in the next two weeks.
