Jennifer Morrison was in love with her fiancee, Sebastian. Unfortunately,  she found Sebastian in bed with another woman. Again and again, she forgave him. He pulled her back in every time he did something wrong, but whenever she had to do a kiss for a scene, or act a relationship, Sebastian would stop talking to her for days at a time. She finally had to end things with him. She closed herself off from any romantic relationships after that. She was lonely, but her friends, family, and her dog Ava gave her all the love she needed. Going home to an empty bed became was nothing compared to the fake love Sebastian gave her.

Colin O'Donoghue was married to his beautiful wife, Helen. He loved her more than anything, but apparently she didn't feel the same. One day, she just left. She left divorce papers and ring on the counter, no note, no apology, just the papers and ring. Colin was alone in his house, no one to love him. His family lived all the way in Ireland, and his wife was gone. Later on, Helen had a son, and though the divorce was already final, they both knew Evan was Colin's son. He built up walls, almost never letting anyone in to see the real him. Evan visited, but he, too lived in Ireland. Colin was lonely, sure, but the empty loneliness hurt less than loving someone else.

They were alone, but wouldn't change. They needed love, but closed it off. They thought they were just meant to be alone.
