Origin: Weiss as we all know was (and still kinda is) a cold natured person and the element mercury is sometimes used to fill thermometers. Cold temperatures on a thermometer are usually in the negatives.
Opinion: So I feel very similar to this ship as I do to Poison Rose. I don't really ship it at all. While Weiss isn't exactly the nicest person in the world from time to time I still can't see her being with someone like Mercury because it's not like he could help her change into a better person. Also again Mercury was part of the reason Yang was eliminated from the Vytal tournament so again I don't think she'd want to be with someone who would make her teammate look bad. But again I'll say maybe they could be friends if Mercury gets redeemed but I can't see them as a couple.
