This an old opinion so I may as well redo it. Also I'm quickly approaching 10,000 reads on this book which is insane thank you all so much. So if any of you have a ship you want me to rate as my 10k celebration let me know.
Requested by: Me I've had a lot of people bring up points about this ship so it's time to redo it.
Opinion: I see this ship as both platonic and one sided. Obviously when the show began Weiss and Ruby were like oil and water they did not get along at all no matter how much Ruby tried to make the ice queen her BFF. However lately (volume 6) we've gotten a lot more moments with these two. However these moments still make me see these two as sisters more then a potential couple. Like for example Weiss was worried about going back to Atlas and Ruby calmed her down by saying "don't worry Weiss team RWBY won't leave your side for a second. I promise." She said her whole team would be there for her not just her. So you may be asking where the one sidedness of this ship comes from. Well that my friends is the RWBY: Red Like Roses Manga Anthology. But before I begin I just want to say that the manga hasn't been confirmed to be canon. It's simply just side stories to fill gaps in between volumes 1-3. I mean there may be some things proven canon later but for now there's been no indication of any of it having weight in the show so please no more of this "well technically this and this happened so obviously these characters are in love because the manga is canon." Just please don't. I will acknowledge that there are a few White Rose moments in the Red anthology but even that seems strictly platonic. For example there's a chapter where Ruby is trying to get a boyfriend even though Weiss tells her it's silly and that she shouldn't waste her time. At the end of the chapter Ruby has basically given up since she can't seem to find any boy at Beacon that she likes. Weiss comes back and tries once again to convince her leader that she's too young for boys. But Ruby, playfully, says that she believes Weiss is trying to get her to not be in a relationship because Weiss is in love with her. Ruby then pretends to kiss her but Weiss pushes her away. However you can't help but notice that Weiss was blushing after that happened. There are other instances of Weiss blushing around Ruby which does hint that maybe she has a crush on her. But as I mentioned before this manga takes place during volumes 1-3. We're now on volume 6 and it's pretty obvious that any feelings that Weiss had for Ruby has faded. While I do headcanon her as a lesbian I can see her being with Yang if she is going to be with one of her teammates. So yeah I'm still not the biggest fan of this ship romantically but it is cute platonically.
