pretty boys yeah,
they're up to no good.
➳april showers bring may flowers
he repeated this line in his head as the mud squelched under his boots. the utilitarian style things always tracked in mud, much to his geometry teachers dismay.
yes, geometry. andy wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box. fresh rain stung his nose the second he stepped out of his house this morning. puddles of water pooled in the cracks of the sidewalk and every now and then a particularly large one would splash against his boots.flowers were coming back.
spring meant new beginnings. the onset of blossoms always brought changes, for better or for worse. in fact, april marked the birth of kellin and andy's friendship. as andy walked through the school, towering over his peers, he gave a smile at the memory."come on!" a brunette screamed, yanking a pale boy down the playground of the
local elementary school. if their attitudes didn't turn away the other kids, then it was their height. the two had always been just a bit bigger than average.
"stop! i'm scared!" the blue-eyed boy exclaimed. the two children stopped dead in their tracks as they caught sight of another boy in their class. same shade of hair as andy. a dirty blonde, closer to brown. he laid on the grass, talking to a ginger girl who carried daisies in her fist. to his right stood a boy named matt, ashley stood behind all three.
kellin was already the most popular in their grade. status was everything. and you know, lunchables and pokemon cards."you go talk to him." andy mumbled, shoving oli forward.
"no! you!" oli snapped. andy groaned in fear. how was he supposed to just talk to kellin? the coolest boy ever was standing in front of him and he was supposed to just talk? the two of them had danced around the idea of talking to him for a week now. mostly because andy's cousins' older brother knew kellin's brother, and they were pretty damn cool."i'll give you my bag of hot cheetos if you go." andy persuaded oli. the elder boy groaned in annoyance, rolling his eyes.
tentatively, the nervous thing approached kellin, andy following suit.
"hi, do you wanna play with us?" oli gave him a crooked smile. andy waved sheepishly from behind. which looked comical, because he was two inches taller than oli.
then, all at once, it was like the world stopped turning.kellin looked up at him, blue-green eyes flashing a warm look.
"aren't you a fourth grader?" kellin grinned. "sure, you guys are cool. but not you." he shook his head, pointing directly at andy.
andy's face dropped while oli's mouth fell wide open.
"that was easy." oli managed to spit out. the boy was on cloud 9, while andy on the other hand, wanted to cry.
"why not me?" he pouted.
"because you're a crybaby. didn't you fall off the slide last week?" kellin stood up and gave andy a shove. "i saw you. you're a big baby."
sticking his tongue out at andy, kellin laughed at the other child."am not!" andy croaked.
"ooh, you're not?" kellin giggled, putting his hands on his hips. "prove it." a smirk tugged at his lips as he eyed the shocked boys.
andy remained perfectly still.
"thought so." kellin muttered.
before he could even utter another word, andy's palms connected with his chest, pushing him towards the grass. stains already found themselves onto his shorts as he hit the ground with a thud.ever since that moment, kellin had a newfound respect for andy. after arguing and crying in the principal's office, the three of them had become friends.
it was a small occurence; a tiny ripple in the fabric of life, but it cut very deep.➳
"i'm still not over that. that was fucking rude." kellin snapped at him, shaking their lunch table as he spoke.
"don't be fucking rude!" andy taunted in his best valley girl impression. "you started it."
"okay and? you're still a crybaby. pushing me doesn't solve your vulnerability issues." kellin pointed an accusing finger at his friend. scoffing, andy ripped open his bag of carrot sticks. just to piss kellin off, he chewed them with his mouth open.
"rabbit teeth." the other male grumbled."that was 7 years ago, stop fighting already." vic pouted. he tugged on the hem of his overalls, pulling the shorts down his thighs before returning to what he was originally doing; braiding kellin's hair. "you guys have issues."
"you're the one with issues." andy poked at his stomach. a squeal erupted from the curly-haired cherub as his fingers weaved through his best friend's hair. andy bit at his lip ring with a goofy look plastered on his face. vic's laugh was like his favorite song."speaking of rabbits, you do have big ass teeth." oli agreed while plopping his tray down onto the table. it startled all three of them. but the scariest thing of all was josh franceschi standing next to him.
"i'll pay you after school." oli assured him as he started walked away. the burly male gave him a nod before flashing a confident wink at kellin. "i just bought five grams from him." lowering his voice, he flipped open the box that held his pizza.
"he's a plug now?" vic wrinkled his nose at the smell of the pizza. pizza hut smells like feet, he told andy once.
"nah, he only had that." the eldest of the four answered. his mouth was full of cheese but he still spoke. "he had some shit left over and needed to get rid of it. it was a good deal too. 20 dollars guys. 20."
"he only gave it to you for that much because you let him finger you." kellin snorted. vic scooted away from him to sit next to andy.
"can you guys let that go?! i'm not even gay!"
"stop repressing your feelings. it doesn't make you less masculine." andy squinted. oli squinted too, slamming his palms on the table.
"i like girls."
"you could like both."oli's forehead met the table with a slap. a loud exhale greeted them.
"anyways, i think it's time we start planning for spring break."
clearing his throat, oli tried to take the attention away from his blush.
"oh yeah! it's this month!" vic nodded. "shit. time really flew by."
"you're tellin' me.." kellin muttered under his breath. he rested his chin on a curled up fist.vic stole one of andy's carrots as he hummed in thought. they needed to go some place nice. somewhere fun, and somewhere they all could enjoy.
"music festival?" kellin suggested. a groan escaped all of them.
"there's nothing good."
"wild waves?" andy added onto the previous comment.
"waterparks? are we 10? besides, it's too cold." oli raised an eyebrow.sighing, the group racked their brain for ideas.
andy turned away to check the time. as he scanned the cafeteria walls for the large electronic clock, a girl's shirt caught his eye.
santa monica, california.
it was more than a coincidence."the beach." andy's words slipped out faster than he could process the thought.
kellin's eyes lit up, blue-green saturated with joy. he immediately turned to vic, who was already bouncing with excitement.
"perfect." oli breathed, sitting back with his hands behind his head. "watch out california."➳
