why don't you lay down and make smile?
i could never ask for nothing better than this:
it's just tequila and the beach,
that's why its salty when we kiss.
➳18 hours of driving. 18 whole hours of andy and oli arguing over what cd played next, vic crying over kellin fucking up his starbucks order and oli losing his goddamn mind. 18 hours of the front bottoms and vape clouds filling the car because kellin complained about the cigarettes. bloody noses from the change in temperature and humidity. dramamine (the children's one. grape flavored.) dosages being passed around the backseat because andy refused to stop while he was driving and the other three were carsick.
an empty bathroom stall became their dressing room when they were soaked in sweat and spilled soda after oli hit a pothole. and at this very moment, andy was actually sweating again because driving against a mountain is not fun. every twist made his stomach turn. an 80mph speed limit didn't help either. anxiety flared through the roof. coffee only made it worse.the cherry on the top was checking into their hotel. nobody believed oli was 18, 'turning 19 in a few months, i swear' and both receptionists gave them a hard time.
then the room keys didn't work. and the second room they booked? yeah, only had one bed. kellin practically begged for andy and vic to take it (it's not like it was a problem, anyway) because he'd rather choke than share a bed with a snorer like oliver scott sykes.other than the obvious setbacks, it was fun. whatever fun meant to them, anyway.
so the scene started with rap music playing entirely too loud for the (sparse) amount of families attending the beach. if nicki minaj didn't turn them away, then ty dolla sign would. but opinions from middle aged white women and their children weren't their concern, looking good for college students piling in the area by the second was.
venice was too crowded, santa monica was dirty, malibu was too far. so the group settled on redondo beach and the rest was history. this brings us here, where kellin was playing throw sum more too loud for vic's liking and andy argued with oli over sunblock."it's excessive." oli snapped. he skillfully popped the cap of mike's hard lemonade (that was poured into a coke can) while hazel eyes scanned over the water. shimmering blue, clearer than anything he'd seem down here. everything was always brown and gross. the sky was a classic cyan—not a cloud in sight.
bony fingers toyed with the sand underneath him. with his right hand, andy rubbed the cream onto his calf.
"i'm white." the boy pouted. "i'll look like a lobster if i don't."
"you already do." oli snickered. he laid out on his back, exposing his chest to the sun. finally, sun. it'd had been so long since he'd felt it; so lovely on his skin. it's like his very bones had been collecting dust from being bundled up in raincoats all the time. so he relished in the sensation of heavy, comforting light warming the colorful flesh covering him.
"shut up." andy shot back before snapping the cap on the sunblock. sighing, andy threw the bottle back into their duffel bag before he too laid down. letting his eyes wander, he watched the other two play in the water.a little up the sand stood a brunette and a familiar ebony haired face.
"what if i..drowned?" kellin muttered in a serious voice. he gave a tug on his board shorts. he was shirtless, something he hadn't done since he was in middle school. it didn't make him insecure or anything, he just felt weird not swimming with a t shirt. he only swam with the cheer girls, and they always wore bikinis. he always felt like he had to cover his nipples too, or something else irrational like that."it's knee deep water." vic snorted. a small foot kicked up water to splash the paler boy standing next to him. floral shorts contrasted greatly against his tan. kellin's were striped.
"stop! it's cold!" kellin screamed, going to push vic.
"don't you dare!" vic gasped. a balled up fist met kellin's shoulder. "stop!""you think they're good?" oli's voice held a bit of concern. vic's back was facing the other two, but kellin's wasn't. and he looked pissed.
"they look like they're fighting." shaking his head, andy squinted to get a better look. the two flashed a knowing glance before exhaling deeply. andy rose to his feet before bending down to pull oli up. alright, aright. break it up.but by the time they had reached them, kellin already forgot about the whole situation. the thought of ice cream had kind of distracted him the second oli mentioned it. the only reason oli even mentioned it was to get kellin to stop pulling vic's hair.
"so i take it we're not swimming?" oli laid on his side to face the other three. a tattooed hand pawed through messy hair as he attempted to strike up a conversation.
"it's too cold." vic muttered. "i thought it would've been warmer? guess not." he continued while licking up the side of his cone.
"cold for your childish ass." oli teased.
"hey!"soft serve dripped down kellin's fingers as it melted, sweet vanilla cooling his tongue.
"i'm tired of your shenanigans." kellin scoffed, crossing his arms as he eyed andy.
"the fuck did i do? i breathed!" andy gasped. andy could breathe and kellin would get annoyed. a prolonged sip from his iced coffee made andy raise an eyebrow in annoyance. vic raised an eyebrow at the sudden outburst, snapping his head around to face oli before bursting into laughter.
"that was completely out of fucking context, thanks." andy squinted. "we were talking about water."
"wow, i'm so fuckin' cool for adding fuck into every fucking sentence. very edgy, i love john green and the fucking beatles." kellin squinted even harder. andy exhaled deeply through his nose while rolling his eyes.
"at least i didn't get two damn things."
"bitch are you calling me fat?"➳
a gentle breeze kept andy at ease as the day slowed. the water was irritably cold, but andy didn't mind. andy just wanted to hang out on the sand. as long as they were together.of course, oli did want to swim, but there was a pool back at the hotel they were staying at if he really wanted to. kellin left somewhere, andy didn't really pay attention. probably back at the hotel. he did say he burned pretty badly if he was out too long. oli left in search of more food.
that left him and vic. and right about now, they seemed to be in their own little world. bored with nothing to do, yet content all at the same time.
"paint a picture." vic smiled.
"paint?" andy cocked his head to the side.
"you know what i mean." waving him off, vic pointed to andy's index finger. at first, the blue-eyed boy laughed. tracing over the sand, andy drew a stick figure. it was a crude one at that. just a big circle with a line going vertically and then a horizontal one across the top. to be fair, andy did have a big head.
"this is me."
tracing another one (this time smaller in size), he caught a glance at vic. his reaction; a big, goofy smile made andy chuckle.
"and this is you. and we're gonna be together...." andy mumbled while he drew a gigantic heart around the stick figures. "forever." he smirked, nudging vic.
"you're so corny." vic giggled. button nose crinkling and all.
"the one time i try to be romantic." andy sighed. shrugging, he joined vic in the laughter.
"i love it though." vic added, his smile growing. a huff escaped andy.
"you're only saying that so i don't feel bad."
"pretty much."a certain friend approached the two after being gone for a while. two cans of sprite in each hand.
"you're back. finally, ole' slow ass." andy scoffed, kicking at oli's foot as he sat down next to them.
"oh shut up. at least i'm not over here being gay."
"you're already gay." vic stated. oli flashed him an annoyed look before eyeing their sand drawing.
"is that one andy?" the brunette questioned. he pointed to the figure with the bigger head.
"yeah." vic snorted. andy groaned once he caught on to the joke.
"i could tell."➳
