This rule is very important as it considered grammatically incorrect if you don't apply it to nouns.
In general:》For masculine singular nouns, add nothing
》For feminine singular nouns, add an e
》For masculine plural nouns, add an s
》For feminine plural nouns, add es
Some nouns do not take agreement, for example:
Noisette- hazel
Marron- brown
Châtain- chestnut (it can sometimes agree with the number)
These are known as invariable nouns.
MASCULINE NOUNS
They will always remain default in the singular.
In the plural, add s if it doesn't end in s or x.
E.g. je suis heureux- I am happy (masculine singular)
Ils sont heureux- they are happy (masculine plural/ mixed)FEMININE NOUNS
In general, add an e
However, some nouns double up on their last letter before adding the eExamples:
italien- italienne
parisien- parisienne
Some nouns change their endings:
》change eux to euse
》change f to ve
》change er to ère
To make these plural, simply add an s.
Some verbs may not take an s in the masculine plural, but they will always in the feminine plural.
Example:
gris- grey》Masculine Singular: gris
》Masculine plural: gris
》Feminine singular: grise
》Feminine plural: grises
PLURAL NOUNS
The only real important thing to know here is to change -al to -aux when changing to the plural.
