Chapter 9: The Who

He looked at me like I just said something crazy. Tumango siya nang makabawi.

"Good morning. Come in," sabi niya at sumunod ako sa kaniya sa loob.

"Take a seat," he motioned to the chair in front of his table.

I cleared my throat before I sat. "Here are my requirements," sabi ko sabay patong ng long folder sa ibabaw ng kaniyang lamesa.

Sinend ko na ang mga 'yon sa email account na sinabi ni Kuya pero alam kong kailangang i-print pa rin ang mga 'yon at ipasa kay Axl.

He glanced at me before checking the papers. Pinilit ko ang sariling hindi magmukhang tanga sa harapan niya. I can't believe I'm doing this.

Hindi ko magawang kumbinsihin ang sarili kong nag-aapply talaga ako ngayon dito... kay Axl.

"So why should I hire you?" bigla niyang tanong.

Jusko. Interview ba 'to? Hindi naman ako na-inform pero dapat naman kasi talaga akong maging ready.

"I think I'm a great fit for this job.. hindi lang dahil nagsisimula pa lang ako. I know I could work well as the manager here."

Ngumuso siya. He leaned over a bit, his hands were clasped together as he looked at me. "How well do you work as a manager? 'Di ba manager ka rin ng store n'yo? How would you be able to apply your skills in my business?"

"Uh.." Napalunok ako sa mga tanong niyang sunod sunod. "Wala namang problema sa store na na-manage ko before since hands on ako ro'n. Kaya magagawa ko rin iyon dito. Ang pinagkaiba nga lang coffee shop ito..and I'm not much experienced but I think I could manage well basta alam ko lang ang mga gagawin ko."

"Pa'no kung sabihin ko sa'yong hindi ko kailangan ng manager? That I can act as my own manager."

Ano raw? Eh ano pa'ng ginagawa ko rito? "Well uh..in that case..uuwi na ako--"

"Uuwi?" He scoffed. "So you're telling me you'll just give up like that?" Seryoso siyang nakatingin sa'kin. "That you're not gonna do anything to get the job?" Kung tanungin niya ako ay parang may ibang laman 'yung mga salita niya.

Napalunok ako. "Kasi sabi mo.."

He sighed. "Nevermind. I want to have a manager that's able to manage my customers' complaints and help me keep track of the inventory whenever I'm not around. Can you do that?"

Nagulat ako sa pagshi-shift niya ng mood. Okay..what just happened? "Can you?" ulit pa niya.

"Y-yes..opo sir. Walang problema," agad na sagot ko.

"Alright. Oh, and one more thing," sabi niya. "You have to be available for many shifts since you'll be a big part of..my business." Nag-iwas siya ng tingin.
