The same day.
Kenna's POV
So I'm in a hospital. A place that I've hated and avoided all my life.
I want to get out of here as soon as I can.
I mean, I probably ended up here because I passed out due to too much excitement, which means that I couldn't be here for too long.
More like, I won't be here for too long.
But it is a nice room. It looks pretty much like mine, except for all these machines that kept beeping endlessly and the horrific instruments and needles that I'm absolutely terrified of.
This room has beige walls like mine; the bed is in the center of the room like mine; and it has me too!
Heh.
Okay, that wasn't a wisecrack.
.
.
Ally walks in with an unreadable expression on her face.
"What's wrong?" I inquire.
"You can't leave the hospital until they run a few tests," was her reply.
I stared at her blankly. She looks worried.
I asked her again, "What's wrong, Ally?"
"We'll know for sure once they've run the tests."
''After the tests? I've probably passed out due to too much excitement. What tests do they want to run?" I say it in a wobbly voice.
She doesn't say a word. She just stares at her feet, or maybe the floor.
There's a brief silence.
And then she says, ''The doctors suspect it to be much more than just excitement." As I stare in horror, she continues, "They suspect something serious''.
I hear my iPhone chime my ringtone. I stared at the caller ID that read it's mom. I answer it and hold my phone to my right ear.
''Kenna, baby, are you okay? What's wrong, baby?" There's panic in her voice.
I guess Ally called her to inform her about my condition.
''Don't worry, mom, it's nothin-", I was about to say when Ally grabbed my phone and walked outside my room to talk privately to mom.
I began counting numbers in my mind. I always did that when I was eager about something, ever since I was a kid.
1. 2. 3.
.
.
.
297. 298. 299. 300.
Ally walked back in. Five minutes, I thought.
She walks up to me and gives me a tight hug. I threw my hands around her without hesitation.
We sit there in silence until the doctor asks me to proceed with the tests.
She gives me a quick hug before I walk out to get done with the tests.
.
.
.
Once I was done with the tests, I returned to my room. Hospital room, I mean.
Ally's perched on one of the two chairs in my hospital room.
We sit there in awkward silence.
I started counting again. 1. 2. 3.
