The next day:
Tyler's POV
Last night, Kenny and I talked about all that happened when she was unconscious.
I talked about every little detail, not leaving out any.
She frowned when I told her about the Alexa incident and swore at her.
She looked just like an angry kid when she swore.
She made weird faces when I'd talk, making me laugh and give her tiny kisses, at which she'd smirk.
Typical Kenna Joy.
Today, I'd have to run a test on her leukemia to see if she still needed another chemo. Now that she was conscious, the results would differ.
At eleven in the morning, I make my way to Kenny's room and lightly knock on her door.
There's no response.
I knock again, louder this time.
There was no response this time either.
A few seconds later, I rapped the door wildly, earning an angry stare from a passerby in the corridor.
I mouthed a 'sorry' at which he nodded and quickly vanished.
A few minutes later, the door swings open, revealing a very sleepy Danica.
"Yeah?" she says as she holds the door slightly ajar with her eyes half closed.
"Danica? What's up with you?" I ask.
"Huh?" she answers, and then realizes it's me. "Tyler, I'm late. I'm sorry. I'll be there in your cabin in five," she says, suddenly alert and panicky.
"No, you don't need to be in my cabin. I came to check on Kenny to see if there's another chemo required," I say.
"Oh well, you're going to have to wait for some time," she says cheekily.
"Why?"
"Because she's asleep. We ended up talking even after you left last night, and we were all asleep until you woke us," she laughs nervously.
"Oops, I'm so sorry. Time to wake up", I say, pushing her aside and stepping inside the room.
Erin lay asleep on her tiny bed, and Kenny was in hers.
"You might want to wake her up," I say to Danica, motioning towards Erin.
She nods and walks toward her.
I walk up to Kenny and gently attempt to wake her up.
Within a few seconds, she's awake and has the prettiest smile ever.
"This is how I want to wake up every morning, looking at you in front of me," she says lazily.
"And this is exactly how you will wake up when you're in our house," I say before kissing her forehead.
I told her she'd have to be ready, and I would be checking her up in fifteen minutes.
.
.
Almost twenty minutes later, Kenny was sitting in my cabin with Danica around us.
I asked her about how she felt and took some blood samples.
Danica excused herself and left us alone in my cabin.
I couldn't help but think of the first time Kenny and I were here alone.
"Are you too thinking about the first time we were here, all alone?" Kenny asks, smiling.
"Yes. How do you even know?"
"The grin on your face," she giggles.
I walk around my mahogany desk and kneel in front of her.
She looks at me with those beautiful brown eyes that draw me into a trance.
I kiss her as the rest of the world fades into nothing, and we're the only ones in it.
It must have been quite some time later that we broke our kiss because we're out of breath.
There's a knock on the door before Danica comes in with a sheet of paper.
Kenny's report.
"What does it say?" I ask, swallowing the invisible lump in my throat.
"Well, she does need another chemotherapy at a higher dosage as her lukemia has increased by four percent," she reads from the sheet.
"Okay," was all I could manage.
I look at Kenny, who's smiling at me.
"Hey, I bet four percent isn't going to be much of a problem when I have a doctor like you," she says, lightly punching my chest.
"Definitely not. I wouldn't let anything happen to you," I say, taking her in my arms.
Danica coughs and exits the room.
Kenny and I laugh as we wrap ourselves in each other's embrace.
.
.
Later that night, Kenny and I talked about our future, as we hadn't spoken about it earlier.
She seemed so positive about her future, and that made me happy.
"Yeah, and I wish to travel the world. I mean, I'm going to try and get a job so that I can afford traveling," she laughs.
"We should go somewhere after you recover. Like a short trip. Where do you want to go?" I ask her.
"Um, are you serious? I'm definitely not ready to travel because, one, I'm broke, and two, I can't repay you for what you've already done, let alone the trip," she says.
"Come on, you don't need to pay me. My job pays well, and this is our life now, not just mine. So I can pretty much afford to take us on a little holiday," I say, kissing her.
She grins, which I'm assuming is a yes.
We also talked about her meeting my family, who already liked Kenny even though they hadn't met her because they somehow knew how happy she makes me.
As we lay there wrapped in each other's arms on her tiny patient bed, we continued talking about our future and our little world that we're waiting to explore.
Yes, our world.
