I stumbled as I picked at the dagger that was chafing against my heart. I couldn't heal until this was taken out of my damn chest.
I clawed at the raw tissue surrounding the dagger. I had to pull it out, carefully. I couldn't risk any complications, Stark and Christian were waiting for me.
I gasped as I dug my fingers into my flesh and wrapped them carefully around the dagger.
"Shit." I groaned and pulled quickly. I threw the dagger into the river and reached back inside making sure a peice hadn't chipped off.
I shivered at the feeling of reaching inside of my chest. It just wasn't normal, nothing is normal anymore.
My child wasn't even normal. He was different. He had certain abilities that no other human, or vampire has ever witnessed.
I glanced up at the sky and closed my eyes as the gaping wound healed.
Nothing surrounding me was familiar. It was just a bunch of trees, bushes, and a feild of dried up crops.
I smiled and closed in on the crops. I tilted my head as I studied them, the crops were corn; once grown to feed the villages.
"Where is the farmer then?" I muttered to myself. I scanned the area in search of a house, or a barn but there was nothing in sight.
The tall grass brushed against my legs and the sound of water crashing against the rocks sent a chill down my spine. It was so peaceful here, nothing but soothing sounds and nature.
I ran my hand through my hair and licked my lips.
This place could change the way people are surviving right now. This place had potential to save people from starvation.
But, first. I have to find Stark. I had to get back to my family. I can't allow myself to be side tracked at this moment. Julian wasn't going to give up, he has too much to lose, he wouldn't give up on the search for Christian.
He had to be stopped. Sooner or later, he would be the one to ruin what's left of this unkind world.
Julian had ways, and those assassin's he hired were trained to be the best; they had one job and one job only—Obey Julian.
I ran along side the water as I retraced my fall in order to get back on track with this whole disaster. Start and baby Christian were waiting, somewhere not far from my fall. They has to be.
Stark was stubborn, he wouldn't have had gone far knowing that there was a chance that I survived. He wouldn't believe it even if I were dead.
I'd do the same, I would search for him to the ends of the earth if it meant that I'd be able to see him smile, to hear him laugh and to feel him beside me.
The minute I reached the top of the river I glanced around nearby villages. I back tracked to the village from eariler and closed my eyes trying to sense them.
"Seriously?" I muttered. They weren't close, I couldn't sense them, especially Christian.
Stark must have hid him well to make sure he would be okay.
I sighed and spun on my heel. I launched myself at full speed in order to get back on track. I wasted too much time heading back to this village.
A falling leaf smacked me in the face and I sighed. Using vamp speed was not for me, I couldn't even dodge a leaf.
I came to a halt as a bright light shined in my eye. I frowned and glanced around.
I noticed a run down house with boarded up window; one window had a small hole that a blinding light peeked through.
"Stark." I breathed. Calm and joy overcame me, I found them. Well more like they found me.
I hurried to the window and put my hand against the wood board.
"You're okay." Stark whispered as he pulled the board back to take a look at me.
I nodded and licked my dry lips.
"I was reckless, I'm sorry." I reached through the open window and grasped his hand.
"It's okay, let's get you changed, you're shirt is torn and bloody." He mumbled.
I nodded and climbed through the window and pressed the board back against the frame.
Stark handed me a clean shirt and glanced at Christian. His lips twitched and he shifted in his sleep.
I smiled and touched his small hand.
"I'm so glad that you two are okay..." I murmered. I quickly changed shirts and then nearly jumped into Stark's arms.
"How close was it?" Stark asked.
I raised a brow and raised my gaze to meet his. His expression was darkened with concern.
"Too close," I sighed and squeezed him. "It grazed my heart, not enough to kill me, but, enough where it could have."
"You can't do that," Stark growled, "You can't put yourself in that kind of situation, I can't lose you. Christian can't lose you, Sam; Julian can't win."
"We have to kill him, Stark. He's not going to give up. Julian wants us dead, wants Christian dead. He will do everything he can to get rid of us, even if it destroys everything in the process," I talked into his chest. "We have to kill him."
"I know, sweetheart." He murmered. He sat on the wooden floor and pulled me into his lap.
I closed my eyes and held him close. My heart throbbed as his hands gently rubbed my back, I was lost; lost in his embrace. I couldn't bring myself to pull away and come up with a plan, right now, all that matteted was him.
Him and Christian. The only things left that impact my life.
Finally.
We were able to just sit down, and hold each other in silence. Finally, we were able to be a real family again. Julian had to start over, to have his assassin's retrace their steps in search of Stark and Christian.
Hopefully they assumed I was dead. Maybe then I'll be able to throw them off the trail of my family if they get too close.
Authors Note: Sorry for the wait! Just started working and the hours are crap.
