sunflower

piece by piece
she breaks a little each day
she heads back home
and dusts the dirt off her clothes

don't try and convince her she's fine
when in fact she's gotten worse
you can see it in her behavior
the way she begs for a savior

and every night
when she closes her eyes to sleep
whispers wake her up
reminding her of who she wants to be

i watch as the petals fall with grace, meanwhile the girl in front of me suffers
but all i do is gaze

the reflection in the mirror
hasn't been clear in so long
i was afraid of what i'd find

and all she does is cower
waiting for someone to call her name
"sunflower"
