violet recalled every
warning her mother
told her about xander.
he's a liar like his father.
you are not to be his friend.
he is dangerous.
looking into his
sad, green eyes,
all those warnings
fell away.
"i know."
his frown melted
and refroze into
an almost smile.
"but did you know
that i'm an alien?"
even now violet
can still remember
this story, and
how this began
the first day
of their forbidden
friendship.
