LYING IN her bed Lyra felt the weight of the day pressing on her body. She felt heavy and sluggish, it didn't help that she had barely any sleep the night before. Today was the last day she was going to see her mother. It was only going to be a small gathering, the Weasley family, Harry, Hermione and her parents, and Sirius.

She didn't want to get out of bed because she knew that it meant that the day had to start. She knew that she was going to be emotionally and physically exhausted and she hoped that her friends would help her through it.

Her bedroom door creaked open as Fred and George peeked through the small crack. It was time to get up. Rubbing her eyes awake, Lyra sat up and opened the door wider letting the two brothers inside her room. She could see the apprehensive look on their faces as she let them in making her feel even worse. "I'm okay, I just need to get through today." She said trying to reassure them. It was hard to see their sad faces because she knew that they were hurting just like she was. She knew it was going to be hard facing Ron because he was the closest to her mother when she was alive. Lyra picked up her black dress from her chair and headed for the bathroom so that she could get herself ready. The two brothers sat on her bed waiting for Lyra to finish before the three of them walked down to the kitchen.

Immediately seeing Ron, Lyra could tell that he was feeling the full weight of what today meant. She walked over to her friend and they gave each other a silent nod before wrapping each other in a comforting hug. They sat down together and started reminiscing their favourite memories of Jane as well as shedding some early tears. "I will never forget that time Jane caught us messing with the dishes and getting detergent all over the kitchen," Ron said, mid-laugh.

"We rendered her silent as her mouth open and shut like a fish," Lyra added as she started to giggle. "We ended up in a bubble fight and giving each other beards like Dumbledore." The two friends started laughing so hard that tears started to fall down their cheeks.

The morning went by smoothly as everyone had breakfast together and then split off into small groups trying to forget about what today was. Lyra couldn't help but stay silent as she kept being reminded of her mother and how she didn't have her around anymore. She felt an empty hole that she knew no one could ever fill now that she didn't have any parents. Her father was dead for all she knew and her mother was gone. She felt a hand on her shoulder pulling her out of her thoughts, looking up to see a concerned-looking Sirius. He motioned for her to follow him, and she stood up and met with him outside. "You alright?" He asked leaning against the outside wall. She let out a sigh not really wanting to say how she really felt. She wanted to keep a brave face but being faced with the reality of her situation it was hard to keep it together. Her lip quivered at the thought of how lonely she had been feeling all day but sucked in a deep breath pushing that feeling away.

"I'm alright." She said not meeting Sirius's eyes.

"I'm not sure I believe you." He said back pushing himself away from the wall. She sighed again as the heaviness grew on her shoulders and the pit of her stomach dropped. Her chest ached as everything started to hit her full force. She didn't want to break down in front of Sirius or any of her friends. She had never felt so confused in her life. She couldn't help but turn away from Sirius as tears started flowing down her cheeks. It was hard to breathe as she tried to hold in her sobs. Crouching down she held her knees to her chest trying to fill the emptiness that was left in her chest. She felt numb, it was hard to believe that she was still alive as her mind was so far gone that her physical body didn't feel like her own. Lyra wanted to scream, punch, fight, anything to make her feel something.

Sirius watched as Lyra broke down in front of him. He didn't know what to do so he let his instincts take over as he picked his niece off the floor and into a bone-crushing hug. She gasped, taking in a much-needed breath. Sirius let her cry into his chest making sure he didn't let go of her. He knew that he would never be able to understand this kind of loss as he never had a connection to his parents but he knew what it was like to lose someone close to them. He lost his best friend and his wife to Voldemort and then he lost his friends because they all thought that he betrayed them. It was hard for him to trust again but he was making slow progress and Remus was helping him recover. He wasn't out of the woods yet because he was still on the run but he was safe as long as he stayed in the safe house.
