A hidden survival

Chapter 7

"You're..." Akane was too afraid to say his name. The vampire who killed her family and herself. The first being that create her first trauma. "I'm Ferid Bathory. I guess after becoming a witch, you forgot all about me. How cold." He said in a superficial sad tone as he wipes the blood away.

He took a step forward, Akane instinctively took a step back as she shouted, "Stay away!" He continued, however. Akane could only backed away all the way until she hit the wall. Her legs were losing its strength, if not for the chain, she would have fallen on her knees. When she saw him still closing in, she shut her eyes, bracing herself for death. However, she felt the chains removed from her wrists. "No magic trick?" Ferid mocked. Akane opened her eyes, she was free. "Lord Ferid?" A lady's voice. The vampire turned, "Queen Krul." Akane looked up and saw a beautiful girl vampire. Standing beside her was a boy she thought she recognised. No way... Right? She could not find herself believing her eyes. Ferid's lips curved into a mischievous grin. "Pardon me, I have to send someone away." The Queen stopped him. "Mika will do it. I have to speak with you." Akane immediately covered herself with her hood and picked up her wooden staff on the floor. It really is Mika... But... Why is he... with a vampire?

Ferid smirked, "Well... I guess that'll do." He followed the Queen. Mika walked to the gate, open it and let her out. She quietly walked out but tripped over a rock and fell flat to the ground. She sat up immediately in embarrassment. "Akane?" Mika called. Akane realised her hood was off and immediately stood up and started to run. Mika, with vampire speed, manage to catch her.

"Why are you running?" He said. "Why are you with a vampire? Of all people, why you? Are you also one of them?" She tackled him with questions, questions which she didn't want the answers to. Mika slowly released her hand. She falls on her knees and covered her teary eyes, "I want to say thank you for being alive, but you're a vampire... The being that killed our family." The being that takes part in killing the witch's village. Mika stayed silent. Akane tried to stop herself from crying as she looked up at the boy. Even though his face was expressionless, Akane could see in his eyes that he was extremely hurt, by her words. Guilt poured in her but she could not apologise even if she wanted too. Vampires are the last beings she would be friendly with.

"Did he... hurt you?" After a long silence, Mika finally asked. Akane shook her head. He nodded and decided to walk away, leaving Akane behind as she watched her childhood friend disappear from her sight.
