A hidden survival

Chapter 24

"No!" Shinoa refused. Yu followed her, "Shinoa, she is my family." He continued to convinced her. Shinoa turned to face him, "Yu... A vampire I can still help but I'll never help a witch, they are all better off dead." She exited the room and saw Akane standing outside, she glared at her, sending shivers down Akane's spine. "Why does Shinoa hate witches so much?" Yu sat on the chair in doubt. "Witches are one of the reason her sister is no longer alive. Not only Shinoa, Guren won't agree to help too. So, you can't help her." Mitsuba answered. Yu glanced at the group who seemed to be a difficult position, not knowing whose side to take. He grumbled, "I don't want to upset any of you. I will protect Akane myself." He exited room, Yoichi stops him, "I'll help you. Any family of yours are mine." Kimizuki steps up, "Me too." Mitsuba sighed. "I am on the side of Shinoa, but I'll try to convince her." Yu cheered, "Yes! I knew you guys won't leave me alone!"

Yu exited the room and saw Akane standing by the door, "What are you doing here?" Akane grinned, "You see... I've been here for a long time now, I want to go out." Yu thought for a while, "Where do you want to go?" Akane hesitated, "I want to go to the nearest town." Yu nodded, "Where are the girls?" She pointed towards the gate, "They're one step ahead of us."

Yu grinned, "We can't let them beat us, let's go." He pulled her along the hallway to the gate. The gate opened and the girls ran out like birds setting free after being trapped in a cage. Akane shouted, "Slow down! Don't hurt yourselves!" Her warning fell on deaf ears as they continued to dashed across the fields. "Yu, it's okay if you can't help. It's not her fault that she hates witches. You understand, don't you? The feeling of family being taken away..." Akane said softly, her voice filled with guilt. Yu stayed silent, he does not know how to convince Shinoa, after all, he did join the imperial army to kill all vampires just because one of them killed his entire family. He could forgive now because he knows Akane and Mika are alive, but Shinoa is not as lucky.

"Sakura!" A voice shouts across the market place. They turned and saw a boy running towards them. He looked slightly disheveled and weapons filled his waist. Yu blocks them out of harm's way, "Who are you?" He questioned in authority. "Seiki?" Sakura pushed her way and ran to the boy. When Yu tried to stop her, he was held back by Akane, "It's her brother." Yu stops his aggression. Hana went together with Sakura, "Welcome back!" she grinned widely at him, he was hugged by Sakura, patting his sister's back, he replied, "I'm back."
