Guilt

Himika felt like she was being eaten from the inside, but not physically. The guilt she felt was enough to drive her to near madness. She has killed, plenty of times, so many times in order to eat, but this death haunted her. Was it because she knew him? Was it because he was a loyal ninja of Konohagakure like herself?

Himika almost laughed at the last rhetorical question, she really wasn't all that loyal anymore considering she was planning to run away and just recently murdered someone from her village.

'Damn I didn't even bother to take his body...' Himika thought before scolding herself. 'I killed him! And all I think about is eating him?!'

Himika was beating herself up, she's been doing it since she made her decision last night. Himika sat up in her bed and sighed, not really knowing the point of sleeping in when the sun was already up and she couldn't sleep all night. With another sigh, Himika swung her legs to the side of the bed and lowered her feet onto what she thought was the floor.

She heard a small grunt and looked down to see a half asleep Kaneki on the floor. She took her foot off of him once she noticed that she had stepped on him, forgetting he spent the night. Having a bomb explode on your back really can drain your energy.

"Morning..." Kaneki mumbled, sitting up and stretching before hissing in pain.

"Don't move to much, the burn isn't fully healed yet." Himika scolded.

"I thought it would've healed already..." Kaneki sighed.

Painfully, Kaneki got up, still groggy from how late they stayed up, talking about their plans to escape. Himika swung her feet around to the other side of her bed and got up, she walked to her closet before stopping and realising that she was already dressed.

"Are you hungry at all?" Himika asked.

"A little." Kaneki admitted.

"Meet me in the kitchen." Himika said before walking out of her room and towards the kitchen.

Himika opened the freezer and brought out one of the wrapped packages, she sighed a little before walking to the microwave. She unwrapped the package and placed the arm it contained onto a plate, putting it in the microwave and pressing the defrost button. The machine whirred to life as the plate spun around and Himika watched it boredly.

Kaneki walked down the hallway and entered the kitchen, watching Himika as she stood in front of the microwave. He frowned slightly, knowing that something was bugging her, he couldn't stand seeing her so down. To most people, Himika just seemed so emotionless, so stoic, it was hard to tell if she felt emotions at all, but Kaneki could see past that, all he saw was a broken girl. Kaneki could sympathize with her, the only difference being that Himika suffered in a slightly different way. Kaneki continued to watch Himika as he felt memories flood back.

Kaneki was working at a small coffee shop in Tokyo, as usual. He finished cleaning a mug and placed it down, taking a moment to glance at the purple haired girl who worked next to him.

The purplette caught him staring and slapped his back lightly.

"Focus baka." She scolded as she picked up a cup.

Kaneki nodded and went back to his work. His life never really changed, that is until he woke up in a dark cave, alone and missing many important details.

"It seems like I've finally succeeded in opening a portal to another world..." A voice hissed.

Kaneki's head snapped in the direction of the voice and through the darkness he came face to face with a snake like man.

And that was when his life changed, he was questioned and experimented on. The only things he could seem to remember are two name's. Touka and Kaneki.

The snake like man took samples of his DNA and experimented with them. Although he already had succeeded in creating a ghoul.

To this day Kaneki still can't remember much, but that memory in the coffee shop always seemed to come back.

Kaneki was brought out of the memory when the microwave beeped and Himika brought out two plates to eat on. Kaneki walked over to Himika and took a plate, thanking her for the food before digging in. Himika took her own plate and began eating as well, still feeling drained from yesterday.

Himika felt another twinge of guilt after she thought of last night, she frowned as she ate, not noticing that Kaneki was looking at her. Kaneki put his plate in the sink once he finished eating, Himika doing the same before they both sat down in the living room. They sat in silence before Kaneki spoke.

"What's on your mind?" Kaneki asked.

"Nothing..." She mumbled.

"You can't lie to me." Kaneki said, knowing that it wasn't nothing.

"I should go get the burn cream for your back." Himika replied, changing the topic.

Himika stood up and walked away to get the cream while Kaneki sat on the couch, thinking about what was bothering her. Himika came back into the room with the burn cream and silently began applying it to Kaneki's back, having easy access to the burn because his shirt was burnt in the back.

"Are you upset about last night?" Kaneki asked, guessing that was the reason she was down.

"Yeah." Himika sighed. "I still don't want to believe I....."

"Killed him." Kaneki finished, the words just slipping out.

"Yeah." Himika admitted.

"You did the right thing." Kaneki replied, trying to comfort her.

"How was killing him the right thing to do?!" Himika asked, raising her voice.

"It was either he died, or you died after being confronted and killed for betraying the village." Kaneki answered calmly.

"That makes sense I guess." Himika mumbled, going back to applying burn cream.

"By the way, the chuunin exams are tomorrow." Kaneki reminded.

Himika's eyes widened once she remembered that, knowing that her plan to run away would be set in motion during the exams.

"Remember the plan, you agree to come back with us and when the time is right we escape together." Kaneki said, reminding her of the plan.

"I know." Himika said.

Kaneki felt a little bad for not telling her about the attack that was planned, but decided to keep quiet. He didn't want her to hurt anymore than she already was.

"One last thing before I should go Himika." Kaneki said.

"Hmm?" Himika hummed, waiting for him to go on.

"Don't let the guilt get to you." He replied.

Himika's expression saddened, but she agreed. Kaneki stood up and walked to the door, Himika waved goodbye and Kaneki left, off to tell Orochimaru that Himika joined them.

'Just you wait Orochimaru, we will escape you. Together....' Kaneki thought, his fists clenched.
