Matthew and Stephanie were lucky enough to take a trip to China and Thailand.

While they were in China they took an overnight bunker train from Shanghai to Beijing. They got on that evening and were expected to arrive that morning. They boarded the train in sweats and comfortable shirts. Then they were directed to a bunk which was three beds tall. They also noticed how tightly compacted everything looked. They were given the bottom bunk and shown where the bathrooms were.

"Well this will be cozy." said Stephanie.

"Yeah, but will be asleep most of way, so it should be fine." said Matthew. As more and more passengers boarded the train it felt more and more cramped. It got to the point where you were literally always within inches from someone.

It was midnight and they still had a few hours left to go.

"I'm going to go brush my teeth." said Stephanie.

"Okay, I'll watch our stuff." said Matthew. She grabbed her toiletry bag, stood up, and left. After about minute, Matthew had to stretch his legs, so he got up and walked into the isle. He noticed a person making a whole pot of soup.

"So that's where the fish smell is coming from." he thought. Then the sound of someone whistling interrupted his thoughts. He looked down the car and saw his wife coming back. She looked slightly uncomfortable. But she wasn't the one whistling. It was another man she walked by. He noticed a lot of the male passengers checking her out. It took everything inside of him not to go and punch all of them. Once Steph got to him she looked shyly up at him. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and guided her back into their bunk area. Then he shot a angry glare at the men. They immediately looked away. The couple sat back down on their bed.

"You okay hon?" he asked rubbing her shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm glad I'm traveling with you and not alone." he pulled her close to him. She leaned into him and he gave her a kiss on top of her head. She continued to lay her head on his shoulder as they rested against each other. They talked briefly about their plans for tomorrow when Stephanie yawned.

"Getting sleepy?" asked Matthew.

"Maybe a little." she said.

"Come on, let's lay down." he said. He laid them down in the bed. He made sure she was on the side with the wall. She snuggled up into his chest. She could feel here eyelids getting heavy. Matthew gently stroked her hair.

"I'm a little nervous to fall asleep around all these people." said Stephanie.

"Don't worry, I'll look out for you." he said.

"But aren't you tired?"

"Not at the moment, I'll go to sleep when I feel like it." said Matthew reassuring her. Though he knew he was lying.

"Okay, good night honey." said Stephanie.

"Night sweetie, love you."

"I love you too." Stephanie felt a soft kiss on her forehead before falling into a deep sleep wrapped up in her husband's arms.

It was 3 am and Matthew was still awake.

Even though just about everyone around them was dead asleep, he still stayed awake. It wasn't because he could hear a card game going on or that there was a person snoring, it was because he wanted to look out for his wife. He felt the need to be the watchmen and make sure nothing happened to them in the night. Also, some of their luggage was out in the open, so he wanted to make sure nobody stole anything from them, like their passports. He took a glance down at Stephanie who was completely out. Every once in awhile she would twitch a bit and he would give a small smile. He looked up and saw a window that was in perfect view. He watched the night sky as they approached their destination.

"Stephanie, wake up. We're almost there." said Matthew in a soft gentle tone

slightly shaking his wife awaked. Stephanie slowly opened her eyes. She groaned and buried her head in Matthew, causing him to laugh.

"Did you sleep good?" he asked with a playful grin.

"Yeah, did you?"

"No, I didn't sleep at all." Stephanie immediately woke up and turned towards him. She noticed how heavy and bloodshot his eyes looked

"What?"

"Well I felt the need to look out for us."

"But you promised me you would go to sleep."

"Wellllll... I knew I was going to break that promise." he said in that guy high pitch tone when he knew he might me in trouble. Stephanie rolled her eyes and smiled.

"Oh honey, while I appreciate the gesture, you should still get your sleep. But, how about this, when we get to the hotel I'll let you rest for a few hours. I'll go over our Itinerary and see what I can move around so you get your rest." she said.

"Okay, thanks hon." he said.

"But for the record, thanks." she said.

"No problem."

"Just next time wake me up so we can take shifts." said Stephanie.

"Okay." he said with a giggle. "I love you." said Matthew.

"I love you too." she said. She leaned in and they gave each other a quick peck on the lips. After they got all their things together they got off the train and went to the hotel. Once they got to their room, Stephanie went to the bathroom while Matthew collapsed on the bed. He passed out on their bed with in seconds. Stephanie came out of the bathroom and saw him peacefully asleep and smiled at how much she loved that man.
