vi. the origin story
Let's talk origin stories, one of the most important things when creating an OC. How does your character have powers? Or where did you character learn how to fight? Why does your character hate humanity?
Origin stories are key to understanding a character. Origin stories can be in a prologue or can be revealed throughout many chapters of a book. However they're necessary. I don't want to read about a character who just has powers and we don't know why. Origins make characters more dimensional.
However sometimes it's hard to think of origin stories so here are some below:
Through Birth; An easy origin story for powers is through birth. Your OC can have mutant/gifted parents, and their power or gene is passed down on them. It also can make your character have a positive attitude to their gift, as their parents can teach them it's a gift not a burden. If your OC was a mutant, they could go through a distressing moment and their x-gene could be revealed. Or alternatively they could be alien.
The infinity stones; Yes, the infinity stones. We've already seen Wanda and Pietro get their powers from one infinity stone, so then the rest should also be able to give power right? I think this is really interesting and is a sure way to include your OC into an infinity war plot. It's also very interesting as depending on the stone you choose will affect the love interest and film. What I mean is a character powered by the power stone wouldn't be making out with Tony on earth, the OC should be in gotg as it would make more sense. This is really interesting and I would love to see a character powered by the soul stone.
Experimentation; The most common way OC's on this site get powers in my opinion. An overused arch is being experimented on by hydra, and no way is that bad, but I would love to see something different. You could create your own organisation, evil or good. Or you could get an organisation from the comics we haven't really seen in the film yet and use that. Also experimentation can be for good reasons or evil, and can have good or bad repercussions. It's really up to you!
Fish Oil?; So if you guys watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then you'll know what I'm talking about. I think it happens in season 3. Your OC could be revealed as inhuman and can go with Coulson's team. Alternatively, someone else could find your OC. Nick Fury or Doctor Strange, possibilities are endless.
Infections; Ew, infections. Kidding. Infections can be interesting to give an OC power. Your character could be infected by alien material or a air born disease. This is really interesting and your OC is basically getting their power by accident.
That's just a few origin stories, if you're having trouble finding one.
