I helped you out of a broken place
But falling for you was my mistake

{Call Out My Name. Chapter Three}

I bite the tip of my pen in concentration. My physics teacher explains how the lunar eclipse works but it just went through one ear and out of the other. My mind wasn't on the topic at all, it was right after my checkup that I had ran to the gym, mentally preparing my apology and going over every strategy I had.

Once I pushed the double doors open I blabbered, "I'm sorry I'm late I—"

But I didn't finish, because there was nobody to finish it to. I stood there for a few seconds and began to panic. Were tryouts already over?!

I saw a separate door leading to the gym teacher's office. I knocked twice and waited. The door opened to a lady with headphones and a donut in her other hand.

"Yes?" She muttered in annoyance, I looked at her name tag and then back up at her.

"Mrs. Wilson, I was wondering when the girls' basketball tryouts will be?" I asked politely.

She looked at me like I was crazy and then questioned, "You're new, right?"

I nodded my head and she continued, "We don't have a girls' basketball team, not for three years now."

I laughed until I realized that she wasn't joking.

"Why?" I asked in a pleading voice.

She walked back inside and sat down on her chair, panting a bit, like those few steps had tired her out.

"Nobody shows up, that's why."

"Nobody shows up?" I whispered under my breath. Was that it?

"If I were to form a team, would we be able to play officially?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

"I guess so," She shrugged but I was already out the door.

"You look hungry?" A girl laughs form beside me, I stop biting my pen and look at her. She wasn't looking at me but at her laptop. She had square black glasses, falling down her nose and flaming red hair, tied up in a messy bun. Visible freckles were splattered on her cheeks and the sides of her nose while her eyes were a chocolate brown.

"Not really, just thinking," I murmured, looking blankly at the words the teacher was writing on the board.

"The girl with the long blonde hair was seen torturing an innocent pen with her teeth..." She types on her computer and I feel a small smile spread across my lips.

"I'm guessing you want to major in literature," I say, tightening the hairband on my head. She looks at me and nods.

"I'm Blaire, Blaire Willow."

She holds out her hand to me and I shake it, "I'm Olivia Woods."

"So you're the Olivia Woods?" Blaire exclaims, adjusting her glasses.

"Yeah, how'd you know?" I ask, confused at her knowing expression.

"Everyone knows you. The only thing people talk about is how Julian Baker carried the new girl to the medic like a damsel in distress," Blaire says, and for the first time I realize that many eyes were on me, people whispering and drilling holes at the back of my head. I ignore it.

"I am not a damsel in distress," I scoff then grow quiet when I see the teacher glare at me. Great, just great. It was my first day and I'm already the gossip of every conversation in school.

"What's so great about Julian anyways?" I whisper, turning back to Blaire.

"Julian Baker. Everyone's beloved basketballer, the fans favorite, and the hottest boy of Westside High," She explains, her voice dull as if this topic was the least important thing on her mind. I shuffle in my seat and pull down my knee length skirt, getting annoyed at how short the school uniforms are.

"I bet all the girls are crazy jealous of you, no one's ever been able to grab Julian's attention, or even touch him," Blaire explains and she's writing down notes now. My skin tingles, remembering his warm hands carrying me down the hall.

"He's not my type," I shrug and Blaire looks at me like I was a madman, "Plus I have bigger things to worry about."

Seeming interested in where this conversation her baby brown eyes shimmered slightly.

"Yeah? What could possibly be more important than the school's sexy cupid?" She asks with sarcasm.

I let out a quiet laugh and then I say, "This school doesn't have a girls' basketball team."

"Yeah, we don't."

"I'm trying to get a team together," I explain then the bell rings and we pack our stuff.

"How?" She asks me, speaking over all the hustling students and I can hear my name being said again and again but I keep my eyes on Blaire.

"No clue," I sigh, walking towards the door with her at my side. Everyone was rushing to their lockers, eager to go to cafeteria.

"I think I have an idea," She suggests and I smile a bit, knowing that whatever came out of her mouth next was going to be good.

"Julian Baker," She smirks at those two words, and I couldn't have been more wrong.

Authors Note

I'm obsessed with the name 'Julian', anyone else read "Lord of Shadows" by Cassandra Clare? What do you think Blaire has in mind with WestSide Highs most popular jock?
