Sandstorm tore at the mouse at her paws, frustrated. Why was she so easily affected by him? Well, maybe because you're starting to like him. Sandstorm tried to shake off those thoughts, but she couldn't help but think back to the time that he had saved her - the time she first started to like him.

She stood up, shaking her head to try to clear her thoughts. Flicking her tail from side to side, she stared irritably at the mouse she had just shredded. Great, now this is inedible just because I was thinking too much of him. Why did I have to be so rash and scold him like that? He was probably feeling so lost right now...

Sandstorm glanced back to where she knew Fireheart was still standing, confused and sad. Her heart ached for him.

But he likes Spottedleaf, Sandstorm thought to herself. Sighing, she picked up the remains of the mouse and started padding back to camp.

As she entered the camp entrance, Bluestar headed over to her. The leader of ThunderClan glanced once at the shredded mouse and stared at her with a 'what-happened' expression on her face.

Sandstorm dipped her head in respect for Bluestar, but avoided the question as she headed for the fresh-kill pile. Bluestar followed, "Sandstorm, I want you to lead a patrol out to the WindClan borders. Tigerclaw has been scenting them over on our side of the border."

Sandstorm lay the mouse on the fresh-kill pile, then nodded at Bluestar. "Alright." She tried not to look for Fireheart as she scanned the camp for cats to bring on the patrol, but obviously she failed. Fireheart met her gaze steadily.

Mouse dung, why does he always have to look so... Wait, is he walking towards me?

He was.

Great. I'm such a mouse-brain, why couldn't I look elsewhere? Why do I always find myself searching for him? Sandstorm silently scolded herself as she looked down at her paws. See? This is what happens when you...

"I'll come with you." Fireheart's deep voice that Sandstorm had come to love washed over her, effectively cutting off her thoughts. She looked up, trying not to meet his gaze as she searched the camp for more cats to join their patrol before it became too awkward.

She didn't want him to know how much his comment that he liked Spottedleaf had affected her so much.

"Willowpelt and Mousefur," Sandstorm called. The two warriors looked up from sharing tongues, then joined Sandstorm as she headed for the entrance to camp rather hastily. She couldn't concentrate with Fireheart standing so close to her.

As they headed to the WindClan border, Fireheart kept pace with her. "I'm sorry," he murmured under his breath, but Sandstorm didn't want to hear it.

She pulled on, not caring much about the patrol she was leaving behind. The thick undergrowth was slowly becoming lesser as she neared WindClan territory. She pushed herself on faster, thinking there was nothing further but clear land.

Her eyes widened as she finally saw what was ahead of her. Skidding to a stop at the edge of a gorge, she took a deep, shaky breath as she saw just how close her death had been. Memories flashed across her mind, Fireheart standing over her, worried for her as he dragged her away from the edge of the gorge - saving her life.

Closing her eyes, she sensed rather than saw Fireheart come to stand beside her.

"You almost fell down again," Fireheart gazed out over the gorge, not meeting her gaze. Sandstorm looked at him.

"I know what I'm doing. I wasn't going to fall." Sandstorm snapped, but her heart accelerated at the sight of his deep green gaze and how close she was to him.
