[Name]'s POV

I pour myself a glass of wine before taking a seat at my kitchen island. "So what do want to know?" I ask while taking a sip of my drink, and watching Connor look at some pictures I have on the wall.

"You work for the FBI, correct? What got you so involved with deviant cases?" he asks and I set my glass down.

"Well-" I start before thinking about how I want to phrase my response. "It has to do with something that happened when I twenty."

"Before you were an agent?"

"Yes. It's why I have a different view on androids then what much of the public seem to have," I say, and Connor walks over to the kitchen island and looks across the marble countertop at me.

"What happened?"

"I was staying at my mothers house at the time, and like others, she owned an android. Now, my mother is a compassionate person which is probably why she's an amazing doctor, but the compassion also stemmed to the androids," I say, a small smile coming to my face. "The android's name was Cleo. She... was practically a sister to me and..."

I bring my hand up and touch my cheek, before quickly wiping the tears that formed out of my eyes. Connor's eyebrows furrow and I suppress the sadness I've been holding onto for the past few years. "My mom and I loved Cleo, she's even in a few of the pictures I have. Now, here's the story of how I got involved with deviants and androids."

Connor walks around the island and takes a seat in the stool beside me while I fiddle with my thumbs. I stare straight ahead of me while thinking back. "It was December 31st, 2032. Mom, Cleo, and I had some family and friends over for a New Years Eve party. I was sick that day so Cleo spent her time with me and we played some video games, watched movies, and chatted about what was going on at the university I went to.

"At one point during the party, Cleo had to leave the room to get me some medication, and I was left alone which wasn't a big deal I was twenty, but while she was gone one of my mom's friends walked into the room...

"He was a nice guy. I had met him a few times, but he was heavily intoxicated that night. He closed the door behind him and took a seat at the edge of my bed. We talked for a bit and I didn't notice how close he was getting to me until I was pinned down on my bed.

"I started calling for help until he forced himself on me and tried touching me. I tried to fight back, but I was too ill to really do anything. I remember him eventually getting ripped off me and thrown to the floor. Cleo had returned.

"He tried to attack her and she fought back, and he was killed in the process. I guess Cleo had given him a harsh shove and it caused him to crack his head open on the wall. My mother came into the room along with a few others and everyone looked at Cleo with hatred, everyone but my mother and me.

"My mom was able to figure out what happened right when she entered the room, she saw her friend slip away, but she assumed it was to go to the bathroom. Someone at the party called the police on Cleo and my mom tried to explain the situation, but they didn't listen. Cleo was shot several times on sight," I whisper and look over to Connor who stares at me, "she deviated to protect me. I'm the reason she was killed."

Connor stays quiet, processing what I told him and I pick up my wine glass, taking another sip of the liquid. "That's why I wanted to help the androids and deviants. Contrary to what you believe, Connor, androids and humans are very similar. Maybe one day you'll realize that."

"We're just machines, [Name]. We were created to obey," Connor says, and I chuckle dryly.

"Do you honestly believe that?"
