It's been a week since the sleepover and I've become great friends with the girls but I've been kind of avoiding Jonah since that moment in the kitchen which is funny because I'm avoiding my problems with him because he told me to stop avoiding my problems

I'm at my locker with Andi and Buffy when Jonah walks up "Hey Jonah!" Andi says "Hey Buffy hey Andi I'd love to talk but I kind of want to talk to Iris alone for a second" Jonah says then Andi gives us a weird look "We're gonna borrow her for a quick second then you can have her okay just wait right there" Buffy says pulling Andi and I aside

"Okay spill it what happened between you two" Buffy says "Nothing happened" I say "Iris we love you but you can't lie to us" Andi says "Okay something happened" I say "What happened" they both say in sync "I don't want to talk about it" I say "Well he does" Buffy says pointing behind me to Jonah "Guys please drop it" I say "Fine but go talk to him" Andi says "You aren't mad right" I ask "No" Andi says hugging me so I hug back then pull away "I should probably go deal with Jonah now" I say walking away from them

"Can we talk now?" he asks "It's lunch period why don't you and I take a walk" I say and he nods as we walk to the park sitting on the swings

"Why do you run away from things?" he asks pushing me on the swing "Jonah how many times do I have to tell you I'm not ready to tell you" I say "But our friendship can't progress if you don't talk to me" he says so I get off the swing "Jonah please don't pressure me if you pressure me then the things I don't want to tell you about will only get worse" I say freaking out a bit "Hey hey everything's okay" he says hugging me "It's not but okay" I say "What do you mean?" he asks "We should get back to school before lunch period ends" I say "Iris come on" he says "Jonah don't push" I say "I just I care about you" he says "I get that and I appreciate you but please just don't" I say "Okay" he says "Hey Cyrus is having his bar mitzvah on Friday and I'm having my bat mitzvah on Sunday will you come?" I ask "I'd be delighted" he says "Now we really gotta get back before lunch period ends" I say grabbing his hand and running into the school

"Where were you during lunch?" Cyrus asks when we get home "I was at the park with Jonah because he needed to talk to me" I say "About what?" Cyrus asks "He wants me to stop running away from my problems and he wants me to tell him what's wrong but I'm not ready to tell him or anyone else about my anxiety also I invited him to your bar mitzvah and my bar mitzvah" I say "You'll have to tell them sometime and also I invited Andi, Buffy, and Tj" he says "I know I will but I'm not ready I don't want them to think of me differently" I say "They won't" he says "You don't know that Cyrus" I say "Look let's just forget about it" he says "Fine" I say laying on my bed falling asleep

I wake up to my school alarm, dang that was just supposed to be an alarm I wasn't supposed to sleep through all of Tuesday

I go downstairs after getting ready and I start walking to school with Cyrus, we go to our separate lockers then Jonah walks up to mine "Hey Jon" I say "Hey Little Flower" he says giving me a hug which I pull away from immediately "Iris seriously" he says "Jonah we've go over this every day you can't hug me" I say "But I want to" he says "Jonah please for my sake just don't" I say "Do you not want to be my friend?" he asks "Jonah how could you even say that" I say "It seems like you don't want to be" he says "Jonah I care about you a lot" I say "Well you sure have a funny way of showing it" he says leaving so I slam my locker shut, if only he knew what the real reason behind all this was

I sit down at the lunch table with everyone just kind of silent "Are you okay?" Tj asks and I nod yes

What's wrong

Buffy
Spill it

Iris
Jonah and I got into an argument

Andi
What?

Buffy
Are you okay?

Iris
Eh sorta
I don't really want to talk about it

I look up at Andi and Buffy who give me a sympathetic look but I just shake it off, Cyrus puts a hand on my shoulder giving me a concerned look so I nod my head for him to come outside with me so we walk out of the cafeteria

"What's going on with you?" Cyrus asks "Jonah and I got into an argument this morning" I say "About what?" he asks "He thinks I don't care about him because I won't let him hug me which isn't true you know the really reason and I'm just worried I'm gonna lose him as a friend over this" I say "Aw honey come here" he says bringing me into a hug letting me cry on his shoulder "Everything will be okay" he says "Thanks Cyrus" I say pulling away as the lunch bell rings

I'm at home when I get a text from Jonah

Everyone told me you were acting weird

I'm really sorry
How can I make it up you

I just want you to understand
That you can't hug me
I'll eventually tell you why
But for now I just need you to understand
