You sat on the small tour bus couch with your guitar resting on your lap and the small tv playing a rerun of "friends" which you weren't paying attention to. This summer you were fortunate enough to take some time off university and your job to tour the world with your pop star boyfriend. You weren't able to join him in his Europe leg so you made sure you could come for the North American leg of the tour. You were currently in Miami, Florida and Shawn along with the rest of the crew were already in the arena getting ready for tonight's show. You didn't have to be there until later so you decided you were going to take this time to work on your own music. You didn't really like to write while people were around so every time you had the bus to yourself, you made sure to get some songwriting in.

Ever since you were a little girl you had a passion for music. You started playing the guitar at 6 years old and your mom said you started singing before you could even talk, you also took piano lessons from a young age. Now you've written a few of your own songs but the only person who's ever heard them was Shawn. When you first started dating about a year ago, he heard you singing a song he didn't know and when you told him it was an original, he practically demanded you show him your other songs too. You didn't ever plan on telling him you wrote songs because he was Shawn Mendes and your songs were just mediocre compared to the songs he writes. Eventually he convinced you to come to the studio with him one day to record your songs just for fun, but of course you made sure you were the only one with a copy of the songs because under no circumstances were they to be heard by anyone else. Shawn always found it ridiculous that you didn't want to share your talent with the world, he obviously saw something in you that you just didn't see. So you continued to write songs but you kept them to yourself. Sometimes you would catch Shawn trying to sneak a peek into your song book which you didn't appreciate, the first time you caught him it resulted in an argument and needless to say, he never did it again.

"Hey Y/n," Shawn greeted as he entered the bus. He took a seat next to you on the small couch and adjusted the both of you so your legs were on his lap. "I'm tired." You moved your guitar off of you and onto the floor and Shawn took this opportunity to let his head fall to the crook of your neck as he pulled you closer to him.

"You know I love you but you can't sleep right now," you sighed. "You have soundcheck soon."
Shawn groaned, not wanting to be reminded of his responsibilities at the moment. "They can check the sound without me." he mumbled.

"I think you not being there defeats the whole purpose love," you chuckled, running your hand through his hair. "You are the performer." He just groaned in response.  Luckily, he soundcheck didn't start for about 20 minutes so he had 10 to stay with you before returning to his busy life.

Your comfortable silence was ruined by Andrew entering the tour bus in search of Shawn. "Shawn, bad news. Charlie came down with something and the doctor put him on voice rest for a few days so he's out. Now either you're going to have to do a longer show or we're going to need to find someone to take his place for a few days, but we would have to act fast."

"Shit," Shawn mumbled, taking in everything Andrew was saying. He removed himself from his previous position and went back to sitting upright. "I don't know what we're going to do."
The three of you sat in silence for a few minutes, all of you trying to figure out how to fix this terrible situation. You glanced at Shawn who's eyes were fixed on your guitar that was laying on the floor.

"Wait a second," he spoke up. "Y/n you have enough songs written to take his place, and you can do some covers. Can you do it?" he asked, his eyes were full of hope and two of them were staring at you expectantly. You hated that Shawn just put you on the spot like that, but you couldn't say no. Not when he looked so hopeful, not when you knew he was counting on you to say yes, not when you knew he was already exhausted enough and adding extra songs to his setlist would tire him out even more. But at the same time, you've never performed for anyone because you had stage fright, and you definitely weren't prepared to go out and perform for 20,000 people.
